Marco Štorman becomes the new chief director at Theater Bremen!

A new wind is blowing in the musical theater Theater Bremen. In the 2026/27 season, Marco Štorman will take on the position of senior director and co-head of the musical theater division. The official announcement was made in a press release from the theater, eagerly awaited by the audience and the Bremen cultural scene.

Štorman succeeds the previous director Frank Hilbrich, who will move to Gelsenkirchen as general director of the Musiktheater im Revier in the summer of 2026. The new director not only brings fresh charm, but also a wealth of experience, as he has been closely associated with Theater Bremen since 2013. Štorman describes Bremen as his theater home and acknowledges the influence of the late artistic director Michael Börgerding on musical theater in the city.

An experienced visionary

Marco Štorman, born in 1980, is a graduate of the Munich Otto Falckenberg School and has set numerous milestones in his career. He has worked as an assistant director at renowned theaters such as the Thalia Theater Hamburg and the Volksbühne Berlin. He made his directorial debut in 2004 at the National Theater Weimar and in 2006 he founded the independent group “Kulturfiliale” in Hanover. Here he pursued the motto “Our theater is the city” and not only received recognition for this, but also international invitations to projects in Australia.

In his further career, Štorman was in-house director at the Lucerne Theater and worked with well-known theaters, including the Komische Oper Berlin and the Staatsoper Stuttgart. His most important productions include works such as “Peter Grimes”, “Parsifal”, “Titus (La clemenza di Tito)”, and the upcoming production of Mozart’s “Magic Flute”. Particularly noteworthy is Štorman's commitment to bold and emotional musical theater that brings the “we” to the fore.

A look into the future

Together with Frederike Krüger, who acts as lead dramaturge, and Stefan Klingele, the music director, Štorman will take over the management of the musical theater division. The change promises fresh impulses and more creative approaches that the Bremen theater community can look forward to. Aside from his fame in Bremen, Štorman has also caused a sensation with his latest digital opera performance project “Faith, Love, Hope” for the Stuttgart State Opera.

In summary, Marco Štorman returns to Bremen with a clear plan and vision to shape the future of musical theater and continue to enrich the colorful theater landscape. It remains to be seen what surprises and artistic masterpieces we can expect from Theater Bremen under his direction in the coming years.
