Heldin of the animals: Stefanie Hänichen and her grace courtyard in the heart of Löhnhorst

Especially in the current time, many animals face major challenges in nature. One of them is the protective retreat for hedgehogs and other wild animals. In Löhnhorst, animal rights activist Stefanie Hänichen is happy about numerous new residents on her rest of the courtyard who need a second chance. Her project "Steffi's hedgehog help" has set itself the task of saving hedgehogs in need. Hänichen currently takes care of around 20 hedgehogs, which are often malnourished because they have difficulty finding enough food.

Your farm, located in Landstrasse 25, has not only to offer hedgehogs. A concerned woman brought two living duck chicks after the mother and several siblings were run over on the highway. Another chick, which was given the name Anton-Gustav, was discovered at a petrol station. All ducks live in a special enclosure that Hänichen built for them and the goal is to get them back later. In addition to the Igeln, five dogs, two geese and a rabbit also live in the colorful animal community.

a mercy in the heart of Löhnhorst

Hänichen describes her farm as a kind of grace courtyard, which has always been her dream. Recently, a run was also conveyed by the Bremen correctional facility to her after she was injured by fellow species. Hopefully a partner will soon be provided to her, because the animals earn a home to safety. But the care of the animals is associated with high costs. Food, visits to the vet and the buildings themselves devour a small fortune.

The animal rights activist is dependent on donations, be it in the form of feed, fence elements or financial support. "Many people shy away from securing animals from the street for fear of high veterinary costs," she reports. However, some veterinarians in the region offer to only calculate the costs for medication and to do without the fee to help the animals.

animal hope in the region

The fate of the hedgehogs in Germany is worrying. According to the Pro hedgehog biologists, hedgehogs are in search of food, especially in spring and summer when the offspring is great. Hedgehogs in particular eat earthworms, beetles and other insects, although plant food does not make up their main food. They are very endangered by changed habitats and human influences, which also makes the work of initiatives such as "Steffi's hedgehog help" so important.

If you want to help in Germany, you can find out more about various hedgehog stations. These mostly work on a voluntary basis and finance themselves through donations. A comprehensive list of hedgehog aids and animal welfare associations in Germany is published on the website of the Igel Rescue Ortenau, which take care of the saving of the spiky fellows.

With every small post you can make a difference. The dream of a grace courtyard not only fulfills Hänichen, but also the animals, who can experience the hope of a better life thanks to their dedication and passion.
