Focus on Vegesack: Bathe concept 2035 ensures heated debate!

The much discussed “Bath Concept 2035” was presented in the Bremen sports deputation on Tuesday. The concept provides for a comprehensive redesign of the pool landscape in Bremen. In particular, the considerations towards the potential closure of some facilities, including the Hansewasser bath, the Uniad and the Blumenthal outdoor pool, go. Maike Schaefer from the Greens makes it clear that it is currently only a concept presentation and that final decisions are still standing. In the meantime, according to local office manager Gunnar Sgolik, the leisure pool in Vegesack has a top priority, even if a rapid implementation of the project is not yet in prospect.

The financing of the new building of a combined ad on the outdoor pool area on the ferry base remains unclear, the estimated costs amount to around 46 million euros. Against this background, Schaefer emphasizes the need to secure the financing in a targeted manner. This is particularly important because the swimming pool plays a central role in school swimming, family offers and the swimming clubs in Bremen-Nord.

priorities and challenging financing issues

The Vegesacker Advisory Board has already made a budget application. Advisory board member Ingo Schiphorst plans a special meeting in July in order to mobilize the necessary support for the necessary quorum. The sports city council has also announced that a session on the topic of leisure pool will take place as soon as new information and speakers are available.

The "Bath Concept 2035", which was noted by the Bremen Senate on May 13, 2025, aims at a modern and user -oriented bath structure. Sportsenator Ulrich Mäurer emphasizes that there is an urgent need for action due to high operating costs and changing user needs. In addition, the satisfaction of the Bremen with the current pool landscape, in terms of equipment, service and price-performance ratio, is expandable.

modern and sustainable solutions in the pool landscape

The focus of the new plan is new buildings instead of renovations, which are often not economically viable. Bremer Bäder GmbH wants to create modern, energy -efficient, and barrier -free systems. A comprehensive investment strategy that also includes the digitization of bathrooms using real-time information via apps and online platforms is planned. The city's operating cost grant has more than doubled in recent years and is expected to continue to increase.

Bremen faces the challenge of remaining attractive to the competition of experience and wellness baths in the surrounding area. The leisure pool in Vegesack should therefore be revised until autumn in order to meet the needs of the population. Among other things, contactless payment and a division of usage times are planned, with 50% for school swimming, 20% for clubs and 20% for leisure swimmers.

The discussion about the "Bath Concept 2035" is in full swing. It remains to be seen how the city will deal with the financial challenges and when the urgently needed changes in the Bremen pool landscape can actually be implemented. Further information is in the reports of the Weser-Kurier, Senate press office as well as Buten un inland.
