Confusion about bans without signs: A Bremen engineer complains!

Kimmstraße, Bremen, Deutschland - The road traffic regulations can sometimes be a real mine field, and Jürgen Wiener, Bremen, now had to experience that. He parked his Renault Zoe in Kimmstrasse and was promptly faced with a notice of fine. The problem? The authority believes that the road is too narrow to park there, even if no stopping shield was set up. According to the provisions, there must be at least 3.05 meters for the passage of other vehicles, while Wiener's measurement only resulted in 2.85 meters. A hectic parking in this busy area can therefore quickly lead to problems where there are many drivers who feel unsafe whether they violate the requirements.

Wiener has filed an objection because he believes that a no -stop sign on Kimmstrasse should have been installed. "How should you be able to assess the rules exactly if you don't even know the exact dimensions of the streets?" he ponderes. After all, Wiener is an engineer and you might think that a trained eye is available to him, but he also openly admits that he cannot appreciate everything on the centimeter. The procedure that lasted for months recently took place before the Blumenthal district court, and the decision was made against him. The deadline for an appeal has now expired, and Vienna's financial burden increases through additional reminder fees and court costs, which he estimates on a three -digit amount.

background of the stopping bans

But why are stopping bans so important in the narrow streets? In its dossier, the ADAC explains that stopping bans limit both holding and parking. "Where holding is prohibited, parking is also prohibited," says the clear line. Holding bans can occur in different forms: keep a maximum of three minutes allowed, the so -called limited ban on holding, or the absolute ban on stopping where no hold is permitted. The drivers are often not aware that these regulations can apply even without direct signage, such as with sharp curves or at level crossings.

The Kimmstrasse itself has been on the radar of the traffic committee for some time. Hundreds of warnings on false parkers have been pronounced in recent years, as they often endanger the traffic situation. In 2015 there were 500 warnings alone. In 2017, too, the committee recommended increased monitoring of these problem points in order to counteract the endangerment by parked roads.

consequences of the violations

The legal consequences of holding violations are to be taken seriously in Germany. The fines range from 20 euros for inadmissible holding to higher amounts if you hinder other road users with your vehicle. This is also evident in Wiener's case, where he is faced with a fine plus the court costs - an urgent indication that the traffic rules should be taken seriously.

How is Jürgen Wiener continues? In his case, he got the support of a driving instructor who also confirmed that he had never heard of a stopping ban without signage. Viennese is not alone in this, because many drivers could also find themselves in a similar situation in the future. It is to be hoped that the city of Bremen will find a solution to avoid such misunderstandings and to ensure better communication in road traffic.
