75 years of the Stackkamp settler community: a quarter in change!
Hemelingen, Deutschland - After the Second World War, the housing shortage in Bremen was omnipresent. The oppressive reality of the post -war years testified by tens of thousands of people who lived bombed in emergency shelters and overcrowded apartments. During this time there was a remarkable reconstruction project in Arbergen, in which 184 single and double houses were built in only two years. This settlement, named after the neighboring Gut Stackkamp, is still the largest residential construction project in Bremen in the post -war period. Like the Weser Kurier reported in the summer of 1950 and founded the "Siedlergemeinschaft Stackkamp". 75 years ago, however, the living conditions were anything but comfortable: there were still no basic infrastructures such as water pipes and sewage system.
The first settlers lived in a narrow room, often in community facilities. However, self -supply with fruit, vegetables and small animals could be operated on the land of around 600 square meters. A decisive step in the history of this settlement came in 1958 when the residents received economic and legal property on their houses after intensive disputes with the authorities. The settler community turned from a survival network into a living neighborhood that promotes the sense of community and takes care of improving living conditions.
a quarter in change
Nowadays there are 200 houses in the settlement, which have been modernized over time. Despite these adjustments, the green character of the district has been preserved. Around half of the properties still belong to the settler community. However, there is a lot of work to the members of the community, since there are challenges such as demographic change and the search for active members. Young families move into the settlement and give her a fresh face, which gives the history of the quarter a new perspective. On June 21, the Stackkamp settler community celebrates its anniversary from 2pm to 6pm in the Hemelingen youth center.
Housing policy, which has been a central part of social politics in Germany since the Weimar Republic, gained particularly important in the Second World War. According to the Federal Center for Political Education , the occupying powers and the Federal Government began to take measures to combat housing shortages . This included the introduction of compulsory management and the first housing law in 1950, which ensured the construction of more than 6 million apartments.
With these measures, a foundation stone should be laid to cover the massive housing needs at a time when 21 million people in Germany searched for a new home. But not only politics has changed. The needs of people also develop, especially in the metropolitan areas, where an increasing number of households with low and medium -sized incomes are urgently dependent on affordable living space.
The review of the 75-year history of the Stackkamp settler community not only shows the change of a special quarter in Bremen, but also reflected the great challenges and progress that our housing sector went through in the post-war period and to this day. The upcoming celebrations not only invite you to celebrate, but also to think about the important role that the community and housing policy plays in the life of people.
