Grünzug opened at Achterkampsfleet: A new meeting point for Vahr!

Vahr, Bremen, Deutschland - On July 2, 2025, the newly designed green area on Achterkampsfleet between Paul-Singer- and Heinrich-Schulz-Straße was ceremoniously inaugurated. This part of the green network in the Vahr offers residents a valuable oasis to relax and encounter. In her speech, the Senator for the Environment, Climate and Science emphasized the essential importance of natural places for the living environment of the citizens. The green area was extensively redesigned in a ten-month construction period and is now to serve as a meeting place and as a play and exercise room for children.

The redesign of the green area comprises several important elements. The cycle and footpath was widened, a balcony construction and a terrace on the fleet were built and equipped with seating groups. New play equipment was also installed to increase the attractiveness of the area. In a further step, large trees received special root bridges to promote their healthy development. These measures were part of a comprehensive renovation project that several actors such as the dike association and the Gewoba cover, which had already slam the fleet in 2023. A total of around one million euros were available for upgrading the green area, of which around 50 percent of the senator and urban development funds come.

quality of life

The renovation of the Achterkampsfleet is not only a step to beautify the surroundings, but also a measure to increase the quality of life in the new Vahr Nord, a densely built -up district in Bremen. This measure was considered necessary because the condition of the watercourses and areas in the Vahr is not satisfactory everywhere. The conversion of the eighth fleet, which flows into the small Wümme, plays a central role in this endeavor. The Department of Building and Urban Development in Bremen has set the course for sustainable urban development with a clear mission statement.

The construction work affects a section of about 300 meters between the Gustav Radbruch and Adolf-Reichwein-Straße. In addition to the renovation of the main path on the western bank of the Achterkampsfleet, where the path is widened to four meters, numerous additional play equipment, fitness equipment and new seating areas are also planned. In addition, there is an upgrading of the neglected lawns, whereby the wall and hedge to be removed at the end of Adolf-Reichwein-Straße to improve the view of the fleet.

public spaces for everyone

The special features of the project include the planned establishment of a fleet balcony and a fleet podest that are intended to further relieve cycling and foot traffic. In addition, the skateboard area is revised and new skater benches are installed. The proud total costs of the renovation measures amount to around 830,000 euros, with 500,000 euros from urban development funds and 330,000 euros from investment means for public green areas. These initiatives are crucial in order to promote public green areas as residents for the residents and thus to significantly increase the quality of life in the district.

Overall, the measures show and around the Achterkampsfleet show how important the integration of natural relaxation rooms in urban structures is. The gradual upgrading by the various actors helps to make Bremen not only beautiful, but worth living in and sustainably.
