A ray of hope could be the upcoming double budget for 2026/2027, in which a total of 38 million euros are to be made available. 18 million euros are already planned for 2026, and another 20 million euros are to follow for the year. These changes in the average are a promising approach to master the existing challenges. Advisory Board member Eric Decker from the SPD emphasizes the need to secure what they have received in order to maintain social services in the long term.

But not only the question of financing from the urban budget, but also how Bremen wants to implement the new labor market strategy "Poverty Control and Special Force Consultation", which the Senator for Labor, Social Affairs, Youth and Integration has launched. This strategy must bring innovative approaches to effectively counteract social exclusion. European Parliament has clearly outlined the procedure that the goals are high: the fighting of poverty, social exclusion and discrimination is in focus.

EU engagement for social inclusion

The EU plays a central role here by supporting Member States in strengthening social integration. The European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) has provided a budget of almost 99.3 billion euros in 2021 to 2027, with 25 % of these funds being explicitly determined for social inclusion. This means that Huchting is not alone - there are comprehensive European support measures. European Commission enables the promotion of projects in the field of social issues and employment and thus also ensures social cohesion.
