Climate protection tour in Bremen: Innovative heating solutions for future citizens
On her climate protection summer tour, Kathrin Moosdorf, Senator for the Environment, Climate and Science, held important discussions about climate-friendly heating and energy-efficient renovation in Bremen on August 15, 2025. The tour took them through various parts of the city, including the Hachez district, the Neustadt and the “Little Mexico” settlement in Bremen-Hastedt. The initiative was organized by the climate protection agency Energiekonsens.
One of the senator's central concerns is reducing CO2 emissions, around 30% of which come from the building sector. An independent advice center for homeowners has been available at the Klima Bau Center since the beginning of 2023. It has already been shown that thousands of people in Bremen have sought advice or taken part in events to make the renovation of their homes more climate-friendly. The center is funded by the Senator for the Environment, Climate and Science. Another climate construction center has already been announced for 2025 in Bremerhaven.
Innovative heating solutions in focus
As part of her visits, Moosdorf got to know the innovative 'climate tower' in the Hachez district. With its 16 meter height, this novel heat pump arrangement from Towergy GmbH has the potential to minimize noise emissions while saving space and costs. Managing director Martin Grocholl of Energiekonsens emphasized the importance of individual advice in order to successfully convert heating technologies.
In the eastern Neustadt, three heat pumps have already been installed in an old building after the old gas heating system was replaced by modern systems. The homeowners report that the noise from the heat pumps is minimal, which is a decisive advantage for many. What is unusual is that more heat pumps were installed in the first half of 2025 than other heating technologies.
Support for renovation measures
In the Klein Mexico settlement, homeowners are assisted by so-called renovation guides. These experts support renovation measures and offer personal consultations and on-site visits. Senator Moosdorf emphasized how important this support is for citizens who want to convert their homes to be climate-friendly.
For all those who are interested in such a conversion, the numerous advisory services and initiatives show that Bremen wants to actively promote the sustainable development of its residential buildings. The Climate Bau Center and the numerous commitments in various parts of the city make it clear that there is a lot going on here.
While climate protection is certainly a challenge for many, there is great appreciation for the comprehensive support and developments in Bremen. This also shows that grateful words and personal recognition can play an important role in many things. With a small thank you, for example for the support or for the time invested, we can give everyone involved positive feedback that they can find motivating. In conclusion, it can be said that Bremen is not only making progress towards climate neutrality, but also on actively involving and supporting its citizens.
