Headache for commuters: Massive train failures in Schleswig-Holstein!

The summer of 2025 brings with it challenging times for rail travelers in Schleswig-Holstein. According to the latest information from NDR there will be access outdates, rail operating and timetable changes. In particular, commuters from Hamburg, Lübeck and Neumünster have to become a cuts that will occur more often in the nights.

A look at the affected routes shows that large parts of the rail transport will be restricted:

• Hamburg Hbf - Pinneberg/Neumünster/Kiel/Flensburg (RE 7 and RE 70):
  -July 25th to August 4th: trains end /start in Hamburg-Altona.
  - 28th July to July 30th: Individual trains of the RE 7 are eliminated between 9:15 p.m. and 0.30 a.m.
• Hamburg Hbf - Ahrensburg/Bargteheide/Bad Oldesloe/Lübeck (RE 80 and RB 81):
  - July 24th to July 26th: Trains of the RE 80 are eliminated between 9:30 p.m. and 0.30 a.m. - July 26th to July 28th: RB 81 trains are eliminated between 10 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 4th August to August 6th: Trains of the RE 80 are again in the late evening.
• Hamburg Altona - Westerland (Sylt) (Re 6):
  - July 17th to July 18th: Trains are eliminated between 10:30 p.m. and 0.30 a.m. - July 28 to July 29: Trains are eliminated between 11:15 p.m. and 5 a.m.
• Rostock Hbf/Schwerin Hbf - Lübeck Hbf (RE 1, RE 2):
  - 25 August to August 27th: Trains fail between 9:45 p.m. and 6 a.m.
• Lübeck Hbf - Grevesmühlen (RE 4):
  - July 16 to July 17: Trains fail between 9 p.m. and 6.45 a.m.
• itzehoe - Heide (Holst)/Husum (RB 62):
  - July 22nd to July 24th: Trains are eliminated between 9 p.m. and 11:59 p.m.
• Lübeck Hbf - Neustadt (Holst) (RB 85):
  - 25 July to July 26th: Trains are in the late night and also on August 8th to August 9th.

replacement traffic and further information

The Nordbahn has reacted and will set up replacement traffic by bus, which is tailored to the connecting times of the train connections. If possible, these buses are equipped with a low -floor entry in order to make it easier to access even mobility -restricted passengers.

From August 1, the railway line between Eidelstedt and Ulzburg South as well as between Neumünster and Kaltenkirchen will be closed for nine months. There are not only the downhill boards, but also automated delay notifications that do not let a commuter down.

We recommend that all travelers find out about possible changes in the timetable before starting travel in order to avoid nasty surprises. Because in summer it can get hot quickly on the rails!
