Nienburg's tobacco room becomes M. Niemeyer Cigarren - what does customers expect?
Nienburg, Deutschland - The buyer scene in Nienburg is on the move. Today, on July 1, 2025, Katja Funk's "Tabakstube" is officially handed over to M. Niemeyer GmbH in Nienburg, one of the largest chain stores in German tobacco retail trading in Bremen. The takeover was initiated by Funk, which was convinced that M. Niemeyer had the right hand for the future of her branch. The branch, which was previously located along Langen Straße, will in future be known as "M. Niemeyer Cigarren".
In Nienburg, this is the first branch of M. Niemeyer GmbH, which is already active in Hoya, Sulingen and Neustadt am Rübenberge. The company has a total of around 110 locations in northern Germany, which makes it a significant size in the tobacco market. According to The HARKE remains in the new branch unchanged and encompasses classic tobacco products, E-cigarettes, magazines as well as services such as Hermes and Lotto.
The tobacco industry itself shows interesting trends. According to Statista , the numbers of smokers are declining: inside in Germany. Forecasts of the WHO indicate that only around 16 million people will smoke by 2025, which represents a drastic decline compared to the over 22 million in 2000. Nevertheless, alternative tobacco products, such as e-cigarettes and tobacco heaters, have increasing interest among consumers. Many consider these products to be less harmful and that still makes them attractive.
also reported Smokers Planet about the structural changes in M. Niemeyer. Since December 2022, Michael Grimbo has strengthened the management as a new sales manager in order to master the challenges of the industry and to further develop the company. With over 100 locations and more than 500 employees, M. Niemeyer is well established to meet the requirements of changing market conditions.
To say goodbye to the previous "tobacco room", Katja Funk thanked her customers on Instagram and thus set a sign of the respectful transition. She not only promoted trust, but also communicated that services and products are largely preserved and thus secured a certain continuity for customers.
The tobacco market in Germany is at the turning point, with supposedly falling sales with traditional tobacco and at the same time an upswing of alternative products. M. Niemeyer shows that with a strategic takeover and clear focus on customer satisfaction you can also exist in times of change.
