Vintage car competition in Bremen: A festival of history and technology!
What an impressive spectacle! The 33rd DRK Goldtimer Competition made the hearts of the vehicle collectors and those interested in history to beat faster from May 29 to June 1, 2025 in Bremen and Bremerhaven. The event took place for the first time in the state of Bremen, and 42 historic Red Cross vehicles came together from various eras of disaster protection. The participants traveled from far away - 196 enthusiasts from all over Germany showed their lovingly maintained treasures.
The oldest among them, an Opel Blitz from 1941, was a truly striking eye -catcher. On May 30th, Theodor-Heuss-Platz in Bremerhaven shone as an exhibition area where the vehicles were presented to the public. Visitors could not only admire the nostalgic vehicles, but also gain exciting insights into the restoration work. For the little guests, the DRK Bremerhaven offered a bouncy castle and a snack station that took care of the physical well -being. Volunteers informed about the important work of the Red Cross at the stands, which made the day a great family event.

The highlight of the competition took place on May 31, when a parade of classic cars rolled through the streets of Bremen - a real journey through time on wheels. The vehicles then presented themselves on the marketplace and offered a wide range of insights into the history and performance of the Red Cross, from first aid training to voluntary services. The guests were able to enjoy delicious pea soup from the field kitchen or enjoy red crosses. The audience also had the opportunity to coordinate the most beautiful classic car - a decision that the Vice President of the DRK, Dr. Volkmar Schön, Obl.
The prices that were awarded in different categories are great recognition for the participants. The awards went to:
- audience award: vehicle from Gotha
- Jury Prize: Vehicle from the Märkische Kreis
- Longest journey: from Alzey (508 km)
- oldest vehicle: Opel Blitz, built in 1941
behind the scenes
The organization of the competition was not an easy undertaking. The two main organizers, Jörg and Andreas, invested around 18 hours a day to ensure that everything went smoothly. The team members were so committed that on some days they left up to 26,200 steps. Her unshakable dedication contributed to the success story of the festival, which not only celebrated the technical history, but also focused on the commitment of many volunteers.
