Winterspelt, Deutschland - In Germany there is a striking change of weather: the current heat wave gives way to heavy thunderstorms and storms. The German Weather Service (DWD) urgently warns of hail and gusts of wind, especially in the west of the country. According to fre.de, the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate and various places in North Rhine-Westphalia are severely affected.

Yesterday a lightning strike was registered in Winterspelt, which resulted in power outages for large parts of the municipality: up to 700 households were affected. There was also a lightning strike in Neuerburg that damaged a ladder rope and left 30 households without electricity. While the thunderstorm is to spread to the east and south of Germany from the afternoon, the warning remains until night. In the south and east there are even particularly violent storms.

The meteorological predictions indicate heavy rain of up to 40 liters per square meter and hailstorm with a diameter of 3 cm. Storm gusts that reach speeds of up to 100 km/h can also be expected. In Altenbeken in the district of Paderborn, a funnel -shaped cloud formation has already been spotted, which may indicate a tornado, as can be seen in social media.

The fire brigade Paderborn recorded numerous missions due to the floods: a hall roof collapsed on Eggertstraße and a sprinkler system was damaged. Water also occurred in a Paderborn hospital, which impaired the elevator systems. The same applies to the A27 exit Schwanewede, which was blocked due to floods. The warnings of other thunderstorms have now been raised to level 2 of 4, especially for Hesse.
