Swimming pools in need: Bath alliance demands a billion dollar plan for security!
Findorff, Deutschland - More and more swimming pools in Germany are fighting states. On July 3, 2025, the new German swimming pool plan was presented in Hanover. This plan, developed by the *German Life Settlement Society (DLRG) *in cooperation with the *Bäderallianz *, calls for comprehensive renovations and new buildings to secure swimming training in Germany. In addition, an alarm sign is set for society: the number of securely floating children drops dramatically. According to a Forsa survey of 2022, around 58 percent of primary school children cannot swim safely when transferring to secondary school, and 20 percent are even complete non-swimmers. "Something has to happen", the initiators of the plan agree.
DIE Bäder alliance, an association of 15 associations, has spoken out for a nationwide investment program that is supposed to include one billion euros over twelve years annually. The plan stipulates that every primary school should be available for a swimming pool in a accessible proximity. "A maximum of 30 minutes car ride to a swimming pool - that is the goal," said the demands of the associations. Together with a suitable state funding program, swimming ability is to be strengthened by closer cooperation between schools and sports clubs. This also includes reducing waiting lists for prevention and rehabilitation sports.
Bremen as a pioneer
Bremen has already reacted and in May 2025 the bath concept 2035, which focuses on the construction and new building of the pool landscape. But the financing remains unclear. While the bathing alliance proposes a budget of several billion euros as part of its initiative, the Bremen responsible thoughts have to think about the actual means. The nationwide plan stipulates, among other things, that 700 million euros are provided annually by the federal government for new buildings, energetic renovations and the digitization of swimming pools.
The goal of the bathing alliance is to ensure that every child in Germany can swim safely by the middle of the coming decade. Hundreds of swimming pools have been closed in recent years, half of the still existing facilities are in need of renovation. A well thought -out swimming pool plan could help to remedy this grievance and to improve swimming training for future generations.
common responsibility asked
The appeals of the DLRG and the bathing alliance are aimed at both the federal government, the federal states and municipalities. A common responsibility is required to not only secure the nationwide swimming pool supply, but also to expand. "We have to tackle the Situation now, otherwise the decline in a safe swimmer will fall on our feet in the long term," said a representative of the bathing alliance.
A well thought -out plan that looks at the swimming pools through a long -term perspective could not only improve the infrastructure, but also increase access to swimming opportunities for all citizens. Bremen could go as a shining example here if the necessary courage to finance the pool concept is applied. The challenge is to promote the modernization of the bathroom landscape, while the security of swimming is guaranteed at the same time.
