New wind in Lower Saxony's agricultural tips: Take over Ortmann and Ahlers!

In Lower Saxony, there are exciting changes in the agricultural sector, which will affect both agriculture and the state's economic landscape. A central event is the upcoming calling of Stefan Ortmann as the new general manager of the Lower Saxony rural people. From January 1, 2026, Ortmann, who comes from Dinklage and has been deputy director of the Lower Saxony Chamber of Agriculture since 2010, will take over the business and follows Helmut Brachtendorf, who will retire after 15 years. Ortmann has a lot of experience that he has gained in his previous role as head of the agriculture division. This is particularly important in an agricultural land that is considered number 1 in Germany and is of great importance, such as ML Niedersachsen emphasized.

Agriculture in Lower Saxony is not only productive, but also requires a high degree of flexibility. The Lower Saxony Agricultural and Grassland Strategy therefore pursues a holistic concept that focuses on economic, ecological and social requirements. The aim is to use the arable and grassland areas, whereby citizens can be actively involved. Possibilities for participation range from feedback to participation in working groups.

changes in the landscape of management

In addition to Ortmann's ascent, the Landesparkasse zu Oldenburg also have significant changes in personnel. Enno Söllner will become the new private customer board from February 1, 2026 and thus succeed Tanja-Vera Asmussen, which takes over the chair of the LZO board. Olaf Hemker, the corporate board member, has also received a contract extension by 2031. Such changes prove that it is preceded by the financial world of Lower Saxony as in agriculture.

In the agricultural science area there are also fresh impulses. Dr. Franz-Peter Engling, who was the managing director of Lufa Nord-West for 23 years, is retiring. His successor, Dr. Marc-Alexander Lieboldt will take over from June 2025. Under Englinging, the Lufa has developed into an important service provider for analytics and evaluation. The positive developments continue because Weltec Biopower GmbH, which expands their management with Tobias Gerweler and Dirk Krumdieck, can also be determined continuously.

Lower Saxony as agricultural land

Lower Saxony, known as Germany's largest pantry, is particularly valued for the extensive production of high -quality food. Agricultural raw materials are not only generated here, but also processed into the finest delicacies. The Oldenburger Münsterland is the backbone of the German meat industry, while East Frisia is a leader in the dairy industry. The tree school economy in Ammerland and sugar beet cultivation in the Hildesheim area also contribute to the variety of agriculture in Lower Saxony. Lower Saxony is therefore not only agricultural, but also a center for agricultural research, with universities in Göttingen, Hannover, Braunschweig, Osnabrück and Vechta are in different disciplines.

The upcoming changes in the staff and the initiatives to promote a sustainable agricultural and grassland strategy could be a sign of a new era in Lower Saxony agriculture. It remains to be seen how the developments will develop in the coming months and whether the citizens will continue to actively participate in the design of their agricultural landscape.
