After 40 years: Kaenguru children's clothing closes forever in Bremen!

Böttcherstraße 7, 28195 Bremen, Deutschland - Böttcherstraße in Bremen will experience a new shop culture from August 1, 2025, because the traditional “Kaenguru children's clothing” has hired the company after over 40 years. The last opening day was May 31, 2025, where owner Brigitte Karow and her daughter Rena cordially said goodbye to her loyal customers. In a moving letter to customers, they thanked for the long -term loyalty and support.

Brigitte Karow, who took over Jutta Virus business and led it on Böttcherstrasse for 23 years, was looking for a successor for months. Unfortunately, this search remained without a positive outcome. Karow suspects that her honest assessment of the business effort and the associated financial challenges did not commit potential successors. In her last letter, the business owner emphasized that she worked practically seven days a week up to her 65 years before she introduced Monday as a day of rest.

A look at the changes in retail

The closure of "Kaenguru" reflects a larger trend in retail. A current report shows that inpatient trade has to deal with various challenges, as more and more younger customers make their purchases online. Online trading has developed rapidly in recent years and is expected to identify 21.8% of total sales in retail by 2024, while in 2020 the proportion was 18.1%. This has influenced the business situation in many inner cities, in which once flourishing business must now fight for their existence (Statista).

Inpatient retail still offers tangible shopping experiences and the opportunity to interact with personnel and other buyers, but online platforms such as Amazon and Ebay have changed the shopping behavior of many consumers. The advantages of e-commerce such as the large selection of products and the convenience of shopping are tempting. Many retailers are faced with the challenge of adapting their business models and developing innovative concepts so as not to be pushed out of the market ([Faster Capital] (https://fastercapital.com/de/inthalt/schafttspfl.

The future of inpatient trade

Despite the challenges, the development is not completely lost. In this way, stationary shops are increasingly regarded as experience rooms or showrooms that can offer added value, especially in connection with online purchases. Concepts such as Click-and-Collect attract popularity in which customers can combine the advantages of both worlds. This omnichannel strategy could also help smaller, local shops such as "Kaenguru" to remain competitive.

While the closure of a shop is always regrettable, you can look into the future. Brigitte Karow will be involved in part -time at Dagmar Kaiser in the Wulwessstrasse and at the same time devote herself to her music projects. The spirit of creative work will live on in Bremen retail, even if the shops themselves change.
