Opposition warns: abolition of the age reduction endangers teachers!

Bremen is characterized by a heated dispute over the future of the old -age discount for teachers. The opposition FDP and the Alliance Germany (BD) have spoken out against the planned abolition of this regulation. The FDP spokesman Fynn Voigt accused the Senate of providing the teachers a “fighting service” and ignoring the health protection of older teachers. He emphasizes that the deletion of these discounts not only endangers the health of the teachers, but could also retire earlier. According to Voigt, this is done for the unsightly reason to renovate the government's "self -botched household". This approach, according to the FDP spokesman, is nothing less than "sabotage in their own state" and would bring the teachers into a difficult situation.

But also the alliance Germany expresses sharp criticism. Education policy spokesman Holger Fricke demands that the old -age discount be retained and underlines that better working conditions are necessary for the teachers. Fricke is certain: "The age reduction must be part of these better working conditions". He accuses the governing red-green-red coalition to carry out the financial political disaster on the back of the employees. The pressure on the teachers, which is increased by the upcoming changes, could have massive effects on school operations.

the regulatory framework of the old -age discount

A look at the current regulations shows how important the age reduction is for teachers. According to the teachers working time regulation (LVO), fully employed teachers receive a lesson reduction of one weekly from the age of 60, and from the age of 62 it will be two hours a week. Part -time employees also benefit from a corresponding reduction that is tailored to their scope of employment. An important goal is to enable the older teachers a better balance between workload and health.

The regulation also applies to teachers in the employee relationship. For many teachers who teach in a challenging environment, for example in inclusion classes or as a system supervisor, this discount is a decisive factor for the quality of their work. However, these discounts are not always sufficient to meet the increasing requirements. Many teachers report ambiguities in relation to their teaching obligations and the distribution of crediting hours - a problem that is repeatedly taken up, especially in the discussion about retirement reductions.

The view of the educators

The talks related to the old -age discount are of great relevance for many teachers. There are reports that teachers who teach, for example, teach classes or take on additional tasks such as system support, are under pressure due to inadequate crediting hours. In addition, many complain about the unequal distribution of the hours - a colleague teaches, for example, for the same subjects fewer hours than their colleagues.

These discrepancies make it clear that a transparent allocation of crediting and discount hours would be urgently necessary. The GEW union therefore calls for an alignment of the teaching positions and better equipment for inclusion and digitization in order to meet the needs of the teachers. It remains to be seen how the political debate will continue and what measures are taken to support the teachers - until then the future of the old -age discount is a hotly controversial topic in Bremen.
