In times of grown international uncertainties, the federal states of Bremen, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg are calling for a significant increase in financial means for space travel. Under the name "Space-Connection", the heads of government of these three federal states have come together and are committed to a billion euros per year for an increase in the national space program. This initiative reflects the growing importance of the space industry, both for defense and for civilian life.

Bremen Mayor Andreas Bovenschulte underlined the outstanding role of the aerospace industry in Bremen. With around 140 companies and 20 research institutes that generate over 12,000 employees and generation of around four billion euros, Bremen takes a key position in the industry. Bovenschulte emphasizes that it is essential to secure new orders for companies and to develop independent access to space for Germany and Europe.

The influence of technical innovations from aerospace is particularly evident in our everyday life, for example in mobile phone and navigation systems or in video conferences.

The role of European space organization

In Europe, the European Space Organization (ESA) directs the fortunes of space travel. She coordinates space programs and is committed to the development of satellite -based technologies. With 23 member states, including Germany, the ESA plays a central role in the distribution of financial means and project implementation. The estimated budget of the ESA amounts to 7.68 billion euros for 2025, whereby the investments per capita in European countries are interesting - comparable to the price of a visit to the cinema.

The ESA has an extensive network of facilities that deal with various aspects of space travel, such as the development and test of space vehicles or astronaut training. In Germany, important ESA centers are located in Darmstadt and Cologne, which take care of satellite monitoring and astronaut training.
