Inclusive playground in Neustadt: A room for all children!

In Bremen there is a breath of fresh air for the little ones: The Matthias-Claudius daycare center at Wilhelm-Raabe-Straße 1 starts a pilot project to redesign your outdoor area. Under the title "Collection - including freedom design as a joint campaign in the district", a natural and inclusive play area is created, which should be accessible to both the 63 children of the daycare center and for the surrounding neighborhood. The site, which has been affected in the past 15 years, is currently evident in a rather dreary state. The play equipment is rotten, and inviting green spaces for the children are missing-a fact that urgently needs to be improved, as [gemeinde-neustadt.de] (https://gemeinde-neustadt.de/2025/17/integratives-und-gatschafes-beampiel-gartengelaende-bei-matthias-claudius-werd-mal.

The daycare manager Martina Wendeling emphasizes: "Nature and inclusive games are not mutually exclusive." Innovative retreats are to be created especially for children with social-cognitive impairments. The redesign provides, among other things, the use of natural materials such as trees, bushes, sand and water, without specially made including play equipment, which is not only possible to reduce the costs, but also to enable the children to connect to nature directly. Another important step is the planned information board at the entrance, which shows an exact plan of the site-possibly even with a blind writing. This also takes into account the needs of children and parents with various backgrounds.

Community approach

The participation of the community is a key to success: children, parents and the local community are already actively involved in the design of the playing area. In a workshop, the children outlined their dream playgrounds, such as the "universe house" of Emilian, combined creative water and climbing opportunities. The redesign also includes a call to support from craftsmanship, to create a real joint project together. The flexible and integrative approach is not only future -oriented for Bremen, but could also serve as a model for further playgrounds in the region.

The project is strong financially: Starting with a funding amount between 15,000 and 30,000 euros, supported by the German Children's Aidswerk, the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen, the Spiellandschaft-Stadt association and the Bremen Evangelical Church. The goal is to create a high -quality, including venue for all generations and people from the neighborhood until the completion in July 2026.

The way to the inclusive game landscape

such as [Spielplatztreff.de] (https://www.pielplatztreff.de/blog/Inkliebe-spielplaetze- design-so-spiele-all-kinder-gemeinde- community/) notes, children have a fundamental right to carefree game, regardless of disabilities. The need to create more including playgrounds is emphasized by experts like Uwe Lersch. There is still a lot of catching up to do in Germany, because many cities stick to outdated solutions. Real inclusion not only promotes social contacts among the children, but also playing together. It is often the substrates that enable or complicate access for all children.

The project of the Matthias-Claudius daycare center is therefore not only a local initiative, but also exemplifies the change towards a more child-friendly and integrative society. The starting signal will take place in spring 2026, and the anticipation for the new game landscape is already noticeable for everyone involved.
