Discover Farge: Interactive tour to Nazi history starts now!

In Bremen-Nord there is now an exciting new educational offer: The digital leadership "#(in) Visible: Farge" invites you to interactively discover the history of the Farge district during the Nazi era. This project was developed by the Bunker Valentin thinking location in cooperation with the State Center for Political Education Bremen and offers a unique opportunity to deal with local history. Participation is child's play, the free "Actionbound" app is available to anyone interested who want to experience the tour with their smartphone.

The digital journey of discovery starts at Farge station and leads in a kind of scavenger hunt to the "Valentin" bunker. The participants have the opportunity to explore historical backgrounds, personal stories and information about the role of Farge under National Socialism at 15 multimedia stations. Topics such as forced labor and the involvement of the village community in the Nazi system are the focus of the tour. The offer is aimed at young people and adults, especially schools and educational institutions, and can be flexibly integrated into the lessons. A previous visit to the place of thinking is not necessary, which makes things even easier.

What can the participants expect?

The tour has a total duration of about 2.5 hours and extends over 3.5 kilometers. The participants can solve exploration tasks independently, look at historical photos and watch video material. The app ensures that all information is always at hand, whereby an internet connection before and after use is necessary, but is not necessary during the game. The search function in the app or a QR code succeeds in access to the tour.

The interesting thing about this initiative is not only the technical implementation, but also the reflective approach that it follows. The tour not only encourages you to deal with history, but also calls for an examination of the responsibility and the culture of remembrance. For example, the "Valentin" bunker is discussed as a product of fascist politics and their effects on local communities.

Bremen educational landscape in dialogue with history

Such descriptive formats are valuable in order to make history lessons alive and media competent. In addition to the digital leadership in Farge, there is also the possibility to use the interactive educational offers of the Arolsen Archives. These include projects such as #stolenMemory that gives insights into personal objects of prisoners, or the interactive examination of deportations as part of #lastseen. Such offers promote the discourse in the classroom and enable students to deal with the story independently.

Overall, the new digital leadership "#(in) Visible: Farge" shows in an impressive way how technology and education can go hand in hand in order to convey a better understanding of the complex topics of National Socialism. Whether in the context of school projects or in the free time, the digital tour is a profit for anyone interested who wants to learn more about their own homeland.
