Solidarity with Madleen: DKP demands freedom for kidnapped crew members

Gaza, Palästina - Yesterday an incident in international waters caused great excitement when the Israeli army spent the ship "Madleen", which transported humanitarian aid to Gaza. In a statement, the German Communist Party (DKP) explained solidarity with the crew of the "Madleen" and describes the measure as a crime that includes piracy and kidnapping. Twelve crew members were kidnapped to Israel, and the DKP immediately called for the release of the kidnapped activists and a stop of German arms deliveries to Israel. "Germany is an accomplice in this crime if it continues to deliver weapons to Israel," says the DKP in its explanation.

The "Madleen" was on the move with urgently needed aid goods such as baby food, diapers and rice for the region plagued by conflicts, which also makes this incident frightening. In order to draw attention to the situation, the DKP called for a solidarity demonstration for Palestine in Berlin on June 14th in order to urge Gaza's predicament of the residents and the circumstances of the detention of the crew.

genocide allegations against Israel

In another context, the increasingly loud allegations are that Israel commits genocide in the Gaza Strip. However, the term is used by official bodies with caution. The International Court of Justice (IGH) in the HAG deals with international law lawsuits between states, while the International Criminal Court (ICC) is responsible for the indictment of individuals who are involved in these serious crimes. In the international media and on pro-Palestinian demonstrations, the term “genocide” in connection with Israel's military actions is often used. Legally, however, it is delicate to prove these allegations, especially since the proof of the will to extermination is difficult to lead as a central element of the generation of genocide.

The UN special rapporteur Francesca Albanese commented and sees to assume “reasonable reasons” that genocide takes place in the Gaza Strip. However, their report is not considered an official position of the UN human rights council, and the Israeli government has criticized Albaneses views as "obscene distortion of reality".

conditions of detention and freedom of the press

Another concern is the situation of journalist Ariane Müller, who is in contact with the detained Daniela Klette. Müller raises accusations against the judicial authorities after personal contact with burdock has been prohibited since August 2024. It criticizes the custody conditions of burdock, which is recorded in individual insulation without daylight. The investigative judges at the Federal Court of Justice Wiesen Müller's request for visit on the grounds that it could be involved in preparations for escape, which Müller rejects as absurd.

The effects of their protest activities are now clearly noticeable: after a rally in front of the correctional facility in Vechta, which drew attention to the poor detention conditions, Müller was released from the service. It remains to be seen how the situation will develop and to what extent the public debate about humanitarian aid and the rights of the detainees in Germany and internationally.
