Demolition of the bed house: Parking garage for Clinic Mitte planned!

The bed house at the Mitte Clinic in Bremen is about to demolish. In the last meeting of the deputation for mobility, construction and urban development, the Senate reacted to a request from the CDU and confirmed the planned demolition. The building on St.-Jürgen-Straße was originally under discussion as a residential building and later as a location for the Education Academy of the Health North Clinic Association. The Hulsberg district cooperative fought intensively for the preservation of the bed house, but without success. Instead, a new parking garage is being built on the site, which is intended to offer around 1,050 parking spaces for cars and additional 400 parking spaces for bicycles, as Butenunbinnen.de. The need for a new parking garage arises against the background of the merger of the clinic on the left of the Weser with the clinic in mid to 2028. The aim is to create additional capacities for employees, patients and visitors at the St.-Jürgen-Straße location. It is planned that the parking garage will be put into operation in the third quarter of 2029, the earliest construction began in the second half of 2028 after the existing buildings are torn down. However, the CDU expresses criticism of the schedule and considers the later completion date to be more realistic, while the citizens' member Michael Jonitz has concerns about the integration of the clinic on the left of the Weser when the parking garage is later completed.

costs and challenges

The total cost of the project is estimated at least 28 million euros. So far, no investor has been found for the project, whereby BREPARK is intended as the operator of the parking garage. The current parking situation in the neighborhood of the hospital is tense, so that an additional parking space is urgently needed. According to weser-kurier.de must be demolished by all existing buildings before the new building can begin.

new development at the former parking garage

The new building plans also include the urban property of the previous Venter car park. Part of the inner city development and the Centrum Bremen 2030+ strategy are presented with award -winning designs created by well -known architecture offices. The selected design by Hild and K (Munich) as well as Juca (Berlin) is based on a classic building with an inner courtyard, inspired by brick account houses. Another award -winning proposal explains a compact development on Pelzerstrasse with an innovative building that includes glass and visible wooden elements. Questions about the load-bearing capacity and economy of the project remain open and require the further development by the jury, consisting of architects and representatives of the Senate and the Bremen Citizenship, such as [internnstadt.de] (https://binnenstadt.de/neues/2024/zwei-zuFunftspilder- Neukdukt-auf-dem-duck-parkhaus-mitte/).
