Blumenthaler Center: Univers students present solutions against vacancy!
In the heart of Blumenthal, the renovation of the city center is currently being worked on intensively. Bremen university students of the field of social work and urban development examined various aspects of the old town center and adjacent quarters in one semester. Her comprehensive analysis, which was presented on Friday, not only has hope, but also clear criticisms that can affect the future of Blumenthal. For example, the open space between the district administrator-Christian-Straße and the captain-Dallmann-Straße is often perceived as culturally lifeless, while the adjacent business street has long since become a shadow of itself. It is rightly perceived as a "ghost road", which is due to the large number of vacancies. Alternative solutions are required here to fix this grievance, because a new retail alone cannot make up for it, as [Weser-Kurier] reports.
The students suggest that they set up offers for children and adolescents in the empty shops and to create space for regularly taking place. Various groups within the Bahrplate also plan projects, but have difficulty coordinating with each other. A round table could be helpful here to exchange information and create synergies. Smaller projects, such as the installation of public toilets and waste bins with bag donors, are to be addressed immediately. In the long term, a redesign of the Bahrplate are desired, which takes into account both social and historical dimensions.
playgrounds and living situation
A look at George-Albrecht-Straße shows that a particularly large number of children live here, but there are few play opportunities. A proposal by the students provides to transform an unused parking lot next to the rental blocks into a playground. In addition, part of the street should be temporarily re -changed to a play street. A play mobile that used to be active in the area could also be mobilized again. It turns out that the challenges in George-Albrecht-Straße must not only be solved with urban planning changes, which is why a social plan is required. The Senate has already bought almost 70 out of 90 apartments to improve the living situation.
renovation plans and historical aspects
The renovation plans for the Blumenthaler center provide for a comprehensive upgrading of the marketplace and the public use of the historic town hall on the district administrator-Christian-Straße. This is not just about combating vacancies, but also about regaining the center as a living place. The educational sector is also to be strengthened by the redesign of the former Bremen Woll combing into a vocational school campus. This development is part of a larger renovation concept that is to be implemented over the next 15 years with a total of 21 million euros, as [Spot-Bremen] describes.
In addition, an association plans to convert the listed pilot hall into a swimming pool for competitive sports. The old Blumenthal train station is also not unimportant, here new commercial settlements have already been successfully implemented, including a Sparkasse and a bakery café. The developments show that the Blumenthal center was once a flourishing shopping mile, which, however, lost attractiveness due to the changes in urban space. With the new concepts, however, hope is fueled that the region can soon bloom again.
For all interested parties, the results of the students can be seen in an exhibition in the redevelopment office on the market square. Later, these are also presented in the Nunatak cultural meeting and in the district meeting, which represents a further step towards the inclusion of citizens in the renovation process. Is there anything in Blumenthal? The characters are definitely on change!
