Hundreds of sculptures from jail: exhibition at Burg Blomendal!

Blumenthal, Deutschland - The Blomendal Castle in Bremen will be the setting for a very special exhibition next weekend. On June 14th and 15th, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the non-profit association Open an impressive collection of sculptures that were manufactured by occupants from the Bremen correctional facility. Hundreds of works of art made from various materials, including ceramics, stone and wood, will be visible on the meadow of the castle courtyard. From fantastic dragons to playful dogs to majestic giraffes - the variety of exhibits is simply overwhelming.

What makes the exhibition special is not only the creativity of the occupants, but also the deeper purpose behind it: Weser-Kurier reports that the association "open" the resocialization of prisoners supports. For this purpose, three different workshops are offered: a youth workshop, an adult workshop within the JVA and an outdoor workshop that offers a perspective for a particularly long -term unemployed. In these facilities, the detainees have the opportunity to work on their art projects 34 hours a week.

The creative process

The connection between art and re -socialization is unique in Germany. Because in addition to the regular jobs in the sculptor workshops, a total of eleven artists guide the occupants in creative work. Young people between the ages of 16 and 23 in particular are often tone, while adults work with wood and stone. An investigation by the SWR shows that artistic activities in adhesion help to overcome isolation and to strengthen the self-perception of the prisoners. Creativity becomes the key to introducing the detainees to their emotions and developing a constructive handling of their past.

The exhibition at Blomendal Castle is already the sixth of its kind and is very popular. The resonance of the visitors was consistently positive, which is not least due to the lovingly designed sculptures and the associated coffee and cake buffet. The income from the sale of the exhibits benefits the association and support the continuation of its important work.

The value of art

The price range of the sculptures ranges from 80 to 500 euros, depending on size, material and work. The dragons that cost between 80 and 100 euros are particularly popular, while stone sculptures are offered for up to 500 euros. With a good hand, the artists managed to transform their inner conflicts and emotions into tangible forms. A trademark of the association are the turtles with roses that symbolize the emotional state of the occupants.

For all those interested in art and those who want to experience backgrounds to resocialize prisoners, it is worth visiting the exhibition. Not only art is presented here, but also a bridge is beaten between captivity and freedom, between crisis and opportunities.
