Crime in the north of Bremen: decline in burglaries, increase in pickpockets!

Last week, Marco Perin, head of the Bremen-Nord police commissioner, presented crime statistics for 2024-one year that is particularly interested in the Burglesum, Vegesack and Blumenthal districts. According to Weser-Kurier but the statistics are not to be dealt with with a simple comparison analysis, since it is also numerous cases from the previous year. After the end of the Corona restrictions in spring 2023, police operations were increased, but the situation in 2024 stabilized at a somewhat lower level compared to the previous year.

A positive news for the residents: The total number of crimes in the north of Bremen has reached the pre-Corona level of 2020. Compared to other districts such as Walle and Gröpelingen, Bremen-Nord has even less recorded. Particularly noteworthy is the decline in burglars in apartments, which attributes Perin to the increased number of home office jobs. However, there is an increase in burglaries into commercial buildings, which is concerned with entrepreneurs.

static details and trends

The publication of crime statistical data for 2024 offers additional insights. According to Inner.bremen.de , comprehensive tables were provided, among other things, information on the suspect according to age and gender and the victims of crime. The PDFs vary in size between 658.3 kb and 903 kb, which makes data analysis easier.

A remarkable trend can also be determined when it comes to bicycle thefts: these have dropped because the thieves have become more careful. At the same time, many Nordbremians have completed their bikes in closed rooms. The statistics also show that burglary thefts have increased from vehicles, which Perin classifies as a classic procurement crime.

older people and drug crime

A topic that deals with many citizens are the crimes to be disadvantageous to older people. There is good news here: The number of such cases, for example through grandchildren trick fraud, has dropped, which indicates successful prevention measures. In addition, fewer violations of the Narcotics Act were found, which Perin justifies with the partialization of cannabis. This development is reflected in the Germany-wide figures, such as the official bka-statistics 2024 shows where the drug crime decreased by 34.2 %.

Violence against police officers is also declining. According to Perin, improved police training measures are responsible for this. Despite a general decline in crime in Germany by 1.7 % in 2024, there is still an increase in violent crime with an increase of 1.5 %, which is the highest level since 2007. This gives rise to concern and illustrates the complexity of the current security situation.

Overall, it can be said that Bremen-Nord is stabilized compared to other parts of the city, but there are some challenges. The police and the city administration continue to work together on solutions to ensure security for all citizens.
