Serious accident in Elsfleth: 56-year-old freed from car!

Elsfleth, Deutschland - A serious traffic accident occurred on July 10, 2025 at a crossing in Elsfleth, in the Wesermarsch district. According to nord24 a car crashed into another vehicle. A 56-year-old woman suffered serious injuries in the impact, while the 32-year-old driver of the other car and a three-year-old child remained unharmed.

The cause of the accident was apparently overlooked the 56-year-old vehicle by the other driver when crossing the intersection. The impact was so violent that the woman's car overturned. Rescue workers were quickly on site: the fire brigade had to free the seriously injured woman from her car before being taken to a hospital with a rescue helicopter. The estimated property damage amounts to around 35,000 euros.

The use of rescue helicopters is not uncommon if you look at the traffic accident statistics in Europe. The number of traffic fatalities that can be complained about in the EU annually is shocking. A report of the European Parliaments shows that between 2010 and 2020 the number of road traffic in Europe at 36 Percent sank. Nevertheless, there were still 22,800 traffic fatalities in 2019. These alarming numbers illustrate how important the quick reaction of emergency services is.

A current example from Düsseldorf illustrates the urgency of such missions. There was also a serious accident at the distributor's north cemetery, in which the number of deaths rose to three, such as Düsseldorf Aktuell reported. Details about the course of the accident have not yet been published, but such tragedies once again raise the question of traffic safety.

traffic safety in the EU

It is interesting that Sweden has the safest roads in Europe, with only 18 traffic fatalities per million inhabitants. In contrast, Romania reported the highest rate of 85 traffic fatalities per million inhabitants in 2020. The EU average is 42 traffic fatalities, which still seems terrifyingly high, considering that the worldwide average is over 180.

The age groups that are most often affected also also make a highlight on the topic. In 2018, 12 percent of the traffic fatalities were between 18 and 24 years old, although this group is only 8 percent of the population. In the same year, 28 percent of the racing deads were over 65 years. These statistics make it clear how important prevention measures and sensitization are in road traffic.

The tragic incident in Elsfleth makes the question of traffic safety in our region come up again. It is to be hoped that such serious accidents can be avoided in the future.
