Basketball start in Bördestrasse: Lesum meets Bremerhaven!
Next Saturday, September 11th, 2025, the time has finally come: the men's basketball Lesum/Vegesack (BLV) season opener in the Oberliga, Season West, is on the program. From 7 p.m., the new hall of the Bördestrasse sports center will be the venue for the eagerly awaited game against Bremerhaven United. This move from the old venue on Heisterbusch to the larger Bördestraße hall was initiated a year ago and promises fans a fresh experience.
To underline the character of the event, those responsible have a few surprises in store. From the second home game onwards, a drinks stand will be available from sponsors, and the Lesum cheerleaders will delight the spectators with their performances. But the sporting challenges should not be underestimated. Coach Werner Maaß has set himself the goal of taking competitive basketball in Lesum to a new level.
Strong start to the season and challenges
This season the league is one of the strongest that BLV has ever experienced. Clearly in focus: staying in the league. Bremerhaven United is seen as a tough nut to crack, with a strong team that could make life difficult for the Lesumers. Another factor that complicates matters is the loss of top scorer Jonte Heßling, who now plays for the Eisbären Bremerhaven and for whom there was no adequate replacement.
The fans can look forward to the new player Jayson Pfannenstiel. At 1.98 meters, he brings size to the team, but is currently struggling with a lack of training. In addition, the talented U18 players Paul Behrje and Tobias Petzold will also receive squad places at the start of the season. However, the injury concerns are not small: Hermann Gottwich is suffering from groin problems, while Ole Sebastiani is suffering from shin splints.
Preparation and team spirit
Despite the personnel difficulties, the team is optimistic about the new season. During the preparation, the team was able to show a positive performance against Bürgerfelder TB (2nd regional league). However, they also had to admit defeat against Blumenthaler TV/TV Schwanewede. Coach Maaß relies on a balanced team performance and emphasizes the focus on rebounding in order to collect the necessary points to stay in the league.
All basketball fans in the region now have to keep their fingers crossed! If you would like to find out more about the club and the games, take a look at the Lesum-Vegesack page.
