Vegesack in change: Youth Advisory Board is converted into a youth forum!

In Vegesack, there is currently an exciting turn in the air: the local youth advisory board will be dissolved on June 15th. This unanimous decision was no coincidence, because the members are increasingly difficult to find time for their volunteering. Many of them are now at the university or in training, which restricts their capacity to help shape the district. But instead of just putting your head in the sand, the young people asked the local office for new elections. Local leader Gunnar Sgolik addresses the need for a preliminary run for the upcoming elections, which should take place from September 15th to 18th.

In order to bridge the time until then, the committee is temporarily converted into a youth forum. This enables more flexible session and ensures that the votes of the young people continue to be heard. The youth forum remains active until the new election and gives young people the opportunity to contribute their own impulses to the number of candidates. The electoral regulations currently provide for eleven members, but an increase to 13 is being discussed. The decision about it must be made by Tuesday next week. The Local Advisory Board must also officially adopt the election regulations.

Wahlurnen are set up at four of the five schools in Vegesack, including the Vegesack high school and the Gerhard Rohlfs high school. Only the Vegesack school center will probably not be a polling station. In the afternoon, the eligible voters also have the option of submitting their votes in youth leisure facilities.

  • Wahlurnen are at the following schools:
    • Gymnasium Vegesack
    • Gerhard-Rohlfs secondary school
    • secondary school Borchshöhe
    • high school on Lerchenstrasse
  • The school center Vegesack will probably not be a polling station.
  • voters can also choose in youth leisure facilities.

In order to promote young people's commitment, postcards are sent to young people entitled to vote, and information is distributed via Instagram and the “ITS Learning” learning platform. If it turns out that there are not enough applicants for the election, this will not take place and the youth forum will remain.

commitment with future

The Vegesacker Jugend advisory board had set itself the goal of actively shaping the future of the district and representing the interests and needs of young people. Commitment, professionalism and teamwork were always very important. The members - such as Jolina, Koray and Yasmin - have campaigned intensively for the interests of their peers. After all, youth participation not only offers the opportunity to raise your own voice, but also to learn democracy and to have a decisive influence on your own living environment. This commitment must be secured sustainably to ensure that all young people, in particular those removed from educational classes, can participate equally, as the [political education of North Rhine-Westphalia] (https://www.politische-bildung.nrw/themen/ Vielifelig-engagierung/jugendentiligung) emphasizes.

In the coming months, it will be shown how the new structure of the youth forum will be accepted and whether there are new committed young people who are strong for the interests of youth in Vegesack. The challenges are great, but together the young people meet their responsibility and actively shape the future of the district.
