Chaos on the highways: Autumn holidays start with traffic jams and accidents!
The autumn holidays have begun in northern Germany and with them the annual traffic jams on the motorways. By the weekend of October 19, 2025 at the latest, travelers on the A1 and A7 must expect significant delays. As the District newspaper reported, the A7 is partially closed between Evendorf and Garlstorf in the direction of Hamburg. These closures have caused traffic in the area to slow noticeably.
Travelers are particularly faced with a challenge on the A1 between Lübeck and Bremen: a 13-kilometer traffic jam has formed here, resulting in a delay of around an hour. There is also another traffic jam between Pansdorf and Ratekau on the route from Fehmarn to Lübeck, which extends to five kilometers. There was also a rear-end collision on the A1 in front of the Bargteheide intersection, in which several people were slightly injured. Fortunately, there was no accident on the A7 between Ramelsloh and the Horster triangle without any injuries, although the left and middle lanes were closed.
Traffic conditions and recommendations
Travelers should therefore plan enough time or choose less busy routes. The ADAC also recommends checking current traffic reports via radio or navigation apps in order to be able to react to traffic jams in a timely manner.
Rental car tips for travelers
On-site registration also requires special attention: larger vehicles may require two credit cards to be presented. Travelers who inform themselves about such details in advance increase their chances of a stress-free rental.
