Tire devil in Bremen: Police catch suspect after destroying 260 tires!
A case of wanton destruction is causing a stir in Bremen: a 41-year-old man was arrested by the police after he was suspected of being responsible for the destruction of over 260 car tires. The arrest took place on the night of Thursday to Friday around 1:30 a.m. in the Osterholz district, near Lake Bultensee NDR reported.
The suspect was identified after a search of his apartment in Bremen-Neustadt, after investigators became aware of him through traces at the crime scene, tips and video recordings. The crimes took place over three nights in a row in several districts of Bremen, including Neustadt, Osterholz, Horn-Lehe and Oberneuland. Various types of vehicles, from small cars to larger models, were damaged, said the police.
Special commission “Tire engravers”
To investigate the damage to property, the police have set up a special commission with the evocative name “Tire Steer”. To increase security in the city, officers increased their nighttime presence and conducted targeted patrols. The state security agency is also involved in the investigation, but so far there is no evidence of a political background to the crimes.According to NDRVideo recordings of the perpetrator could soon be published in order to obtain further information from the public.
The repeated incidents are tearing a big hole in Bremen's sense of security. Such acts of vandalism are among the crimes that also cause unrest in the police crime statistics (PKS). Although the overall crime rate in Germany has fallen, violent crimes and sexual offenses have increased, which is putting a strain on citizens' sense of security, says Statista.
The case shows once again that the East Frisian regions are not only known for their picturesque landscape, but also for increased vigilance regarding such acts of vandalism. The police are hoping for further information and feedback from the public to advance the investigation - in the hope that the perpetrator can be brought to justice quickly.
