Security summit in Bremen: Focus on protection for Jews!

On July 3, 2025, an important exchange of views between the Jewish community in the state of Bremen and the Senate took place, all about security for Jews. In view of the worrying developments based on the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel and the military conflicts in Gaza, the current situation was to be illuminated and solutions. It was not for nothing that the Senate tweeted the willingness to ensure the security of the Jewish community in Bremen. "Jewish life must be visible and safe," said Mayor Andreas Bovenschulte during the meeting, in the spirit of the prevailing views in the Jewish community, represented by Elvira Noa and Rabbi Natanel Teitelbaum.

The message of security came at the right time. In Lower Saxony, the number of anti -Semitic incidents almost doubled in 2024 and thus reaches a new high. According to the research and information center Anti-Semitism (RIAS), 650 acts have been recorded, including threatening attacks and property damage. Such figures make it clear how worrying the situation actually is. "There is an alarming trend," said Rias project manager Katarzyna Miszkiel-Deppe and demanded more efforts against hostility to Jews. The brutal incidents, such as an arson attack on the synagogue in Oldenburg, are considered particularly critically.

The Senate clearly speaks against anti -Semitism

In dialogue with the Jewish community, the Senate not only emphasized the need to vigorously condemn anti -Semitic acts of violence, but also the importance of cooperation with the community. Interior Senator Ulrich Mäurer emphasized that the security authorities are ready to prevent any form of threat to the Jewish community. "Anti -Semitism has no place in the country of Bremen," said Finance Senator Björn Fecker and recalled the great responsibility that all citizens have to bear.

The concerned voices in the Jewish community are no coincidence. Grigori Pantijelew reported many letters from concerned people after the terrorist attack on October 7, 2023. Schools also have a central role, as educational senator Sascha Karolin Aulepp noticed: These learning places should promote respect and diversity and should not offer any space for anti -Semitism.

numbers speak for themselves

The latest developments are not isolated. According to statistics, over 2,600 anti -Semitic offenses were recorded in Germany in 2022, with hurtful behavior and attacks being the order of the day. In a further context, the situation for Jewish people is extremely tense. The pressure on Jewish communities is growing steadily, especially after pro-Palestinian demonstrations, which are often accompanied by anti-Semitic slogans. The persistent increase in such incidents, especially since the outbreak of current conflicts, makes a social change necessary.

The Jewish community in Bremen thanks the Senate for the support and at the same time demands specific measures to ensure its members. "Protection of Jewish life is an investment in the future for all citizens," emphasized Elvira Noa. The measures taken are also a step in the right direction to expand the advisory and sensitization offer at universities and to offer training for employees in the public service.

It remains to be hoped that the cooperation between the Senate and the Jewish community not only remains a short impulse, but also includes a long -term vision for a safe and respectful society in Bremen. In times when 215 people were directly affected by anti -Semitic acts in 2024, it is crucial that all citizens stand up and work for peaceful coexistence.
