Bremen teenage put hope for U17 World Cup in Tunisia!

Habenhausen, Deutschland - Four talented Bremen beach handball players face their big appearance: Captain Theo Jakobi and Finn Jacobsen from HC Bremen as well as Mads Krüger and Tayo Rodriguez from ATSV Habenhausen are represented by Germany at the U17 beach handball championship. This takes place in Tunisia and begins next Tuesday, June 17, 2025, exactly in Hammamet, which is 65 kilometers southeast of Tunis. At high summer temperatures of 32 degrees, the boys will be required.

The preparations for this event were intense. The Bremen quartet has now trained hard for a year and took part in numerous courses. For Tayo Rodriguez, participation in this World Cup is an exciting challenge and a great honor. To optimally adjust to the conditions on site, players travel to Tunis two days beforehand and want to acclimatize.

The challenge of Tunisia

Tunisia will be hosting the U17 Beach Handball World Championship for the third time. After the first host in Mauritius and the second 2022 in Greece, Kamel Borgi, President of the Tunisian Beach Handball League, is looking forward to this significant tournament. The event will not only be important for the participating teams, but also a strategic role in preparing for the 2026 Youth Olympics in Dakar, Senegal.

The organizer has been planning for this championship for a long time. In the coming year, a friendly tournament in Hammamet will take place from March 9th to 11th, 2024, in which teams from France and Denmark will also take part. This shows how much handball is encouraged in the region and that the country has made a name for itself as a host of international events. Tunisia has already organized the IHF World Championships 2005 and 2009 and enjoys a good reputation in the handball community.

a goal in sight

The German team qualified for the World Cup at the U16 European Championship in Bulgaria last year and has great ambitions. An exciting goal is the qualification for the youth Olympics in Dakar 2026. The World Cup will be a first important step in this way.
