New residential area in Bremen: Working on the Kornquartier start now!
In the Bremen Neustadt, it's really going to the point now! On July 11, 2025, the full closure of Kornstrasse on Willigstrasse began to start the first crucial work for the new grain quarters. Women and gentlemen will be exciting! The large excavators have already dug trenches into the street and the first channel work is in full swing. Marek Schreckenberg, Managing Director of the Planning Society ASP, confirms: "The production of rain and dirty water connections to the mixed water canal under Kornstrasse has started." In the coming weeks, a total of three connections to the channel for the streets of the future residential area will be completed.
The blocking of the Kornstrasse is expected to last for several weeks. The construction work is so Timet that they take place during the holidays to minimize the traffic load. Bus lines 26, 27 and N9 have to switch to other routes due to the detour, which means that the Stenumer Straße and Willigstrasse stops are temporarily no longer available. But don't worry, the work should be completed in early August. Then the development work for the new development area is on the plan.
a win for the new town
The grain quarters are created on an area of almost three hectares and is planned as sustainable, mixed use. Here the Bremeners can expect around 300 new residential units that will bring around 800 additional residents to the new town. The concept aims not only to create living space, but also to offer more modest space for cars and create public oases. This should not only be environmentally friendly, but also promote lively meeting rooms.
The project team, under the direction of Jost Paarmann, attaches a colorful use of the neighborhood: manufacturers, co-working and co-living rooms, as well as facilities for assisted living are just a few of the planned offers. At the same time, public spaces are planned to serve as a backdrop for daycare, gastronomy and cultural events. A marketplace for events is also being considered. This is not just about new buildings, but also about promoting community and networking.
long -term planning for urban development
The Kornquartier is an important part of the Living Urban Development Plan 2030 (Step Wohnen), which was adopted by the Bremen Citizenship in 2020. The objective is clear: Bremen wants to offer attractive, affordable living space that covers the needs of all population groups. No matter whether students, seniors or families - diversity is the key. This urban development plan is the result of an extensive dialogue with citizens and experts and will set the course for the future living situation in Bremen.
The total construction period of the new building area is estimated to be around five years, with construction work for building construction at the end of 2025. The anticipation for the result is great, and you could already say: A good knack for urban development is being set here.
