Neustadt in Bremen: Security service is fighting drug problems!

The drug scene has shifted from the main train station towards Neustadt in recent years, which is wanted by politics. According to Buten residents have to deal with increasing problems, especially in the rivers. The container in the Hohentorspark, which offers drug addicts a consumption -free space, is looked after by street workers of the inner mission.

Senator for health Claudia Bernhard (left) emphasized that the provision of a container alone is not sufficient. Additional help offers and the goal of setting up several drug use in different districts is required. The Bremen Senate has provided ten million euros for this, which is seen by the decision -makers as a step in the right direction, but more funds are still required to do justice to the situation.

The citizens are concerned

The concerns of the residents are not unfounded. An incident in July, in which a 25-year-old was shot, is associated with the drug scene. The police are facing challenges since the scene has been scattered, and the residents are increasingly organizing themselves in online forums and chat groups to get in touch against these developments.

In the middle of all of these challenges, the project of the Neustadt runner remains a ray of hope. The security forces are intended to ensure that the residents feel comfortable again in their quarter, with the Neustädter Advisory Board wishing to continue the offer beyond 2023. The financing is guaranteed by residual funds of the drug aid strategy for 2025, but it remains to be seen whether the new runners will continue to use in 2026.
