Neustadt chooses: Who will be the new mayor?

On Sunday, June 15, 2025, a new mayor or a new mayor will be elected in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse. Around 42,000 eligible voters are called to give up their vote. The current incumbent, Marc Weigel from the Free Voter Group (FWG), meets the non -party challenger Steffi Karbach, who works as a self -employed consultant for digital strategies. While Weigel has been in office since January 1, 2018, Karbach brings a breath of fresh air to the election campaign, although she could not hang up election posters due to a lack of financial support, which Weigel did with around 150 copies.

Both candidates have a close connection to the city in which they grew up. Marc Weigel is committed to the preservation and further development of the high quality of life in Neustadt. His priorities include preparation for the State Garden Show in 2027, the enforcing conversion of the fire and disaster protection structures and the reduction of the renovation backlog in the public infrastructure. These projects are of great importance for the coming years, especially against the background of a deteriorating financial situation of the municipalities.

Karbach's vision for Neustadt

Steffi Karbach, on the other hand, sees her main order in creating a sustainable, fair and democratic city. It relies on an open marketplace of ideas to strengthen democracy and plans to actively support the local economy and smaller companies. A central concern is also the socially and climate -friendly urban development, especially in view of the challenges, which result from the climate crisis, such as heat summer and heavy rain. Karbach emphasizes that she would never join a political party as a non -party candidate, rather she strives for a joint design of Neustadt with the citizens.

similarities and challenges

Both candidates face similar challenges: the deterioration in the financial situation of the municipalities, climate change and the high renovation backlog in public infrastructure shape the political landscape. Karbach has already made a valuable contribution to democracy through her candidacy, regardless of the later election outcome.

The electoral system in Rhineland-Palatinate, as described on Wahlrecht.de, enables a ratio with open lists. Voters can both accumulate their voices and distribute between different candidates. The first ballot requires a majority of the valid votes. If none of the candidates reach an absolute majority, a runoff election will take place on June 29th.

The tension increases, and both voters: inside and candidate: inside the results are waiting for the results on the election evening. Who will take over the office of mayor in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse? This is exactly what everyone involved hopes for on this memorable election day.
