Solidarity in the Neustadt: New initiative is fighting for democracy!

In the Bremen Neustadt, something fresh and committed is happening: With the founding of the "Solidarity Unites Neustadt" (Sun) Initiative, around 25 activists want to give new impetus to social cohesion and democracy. As the Weser-Kurier took place at which it was primarily about the struggle against the right upcoming EU election.

The central concern of Sun is not only to fight against right -wing agitation, but also to overcome social divisions. The members bring themselves with a lot of initiative, and nobody is highlighted as a leader - equality is on the agenda. "We want to act self -organized to improve the everyday life of our fellow citizens," says a member full of zest for action.

The challenges that the initiative concerns are diverse: from the need for affordable living space to the encounters of cultures and education policy. There are also topics such as sexist violence and rental fights that urgently need to be addressed. The foundation of a solidarity network not only offers space for support, but also for exchange and political interventions, according to the unanimous opinion among the activists, as on the page Sun-bremen.de

The already active working groups include a choir, a group of political education and the “kitchen for everyone”, which focuses on joint cooking and eating. The members also organize reading meetings where not only read, but also experiences and ideas are exchanged. This is called "Bookwurm-Treff" and arouses the curiosity of the residents. Future advisory services on social issues are conceivable, but not yet planned.

How do the active people get their neighbors on board? "We cordially invite all interested parties to our next meeting on July 6th at 3 p.m. in the Klimawerkstadt, Westerstraße 58," explains a member of the board. Not only do you get to know the first one here, but also ideas should be exchanged on how to fight the social challenges. In a monthly plenary on June 25th at 7 p.m. in the Kurdish Association Birati, there is also the possibility for newcomers to find themselves in the topics at 6.30 p.m.

At a time when many cities in Germany and internationally, more and internationally, initiatives such as Sun are a bright spot. They stand for a social alternative and make it clear that everyone belongs and has the right to participate. The exchange and self-organization are promoted to make as many voices as possible heard, and that is exactly the goal of the Solidarity Cities movement, such as the bpb explained.
