Less electricity from wind power: NRW fights with a decline in feed -in!

In North Rhine-Westphalia, it currently looks a bit lean with the wind power. In the first quarter of 2024, the proportion of electricity fed out of wind power dropped to only 12.7 percent, as reported by the Tixio. This corresponds to a decline of 5.6 percentage points compared to the same period in the previous year, in which wind power was still 18.3 percent.

A total of only 5,428 gigawatt hours from renewable energies were fed into the network between January and March 2024. Wind power made up a considerable 57.7 percent of renewable feed -in. Nevertheless, the overall feed -in with 24,679 gigawatt hours has been the second lowest value since 2018. This does not leave much scope for optimism for wind power use in NRW.

past and present

It.nrw .

A certain ray of hope are the growth in the wind turbines in NRW: from 3,283 in 2018, the number rose to 3,426 by 2023. Most wind turbines can be found in the Münsterland, South Westphalia and in the Eifel, which illustrates the unequal spatial distribution of wind power use.

futuristic perspectives

The population is brought on board thanks to interactive map applications from IT.NRW to understand the development of wind turbine since 1988. Another application shows how many wind turbines are distributed over 1,000 people in the different communities of the country. The Energieatlas NRW also provides information on the wind turbines. These tools can make an important contribution to better understanding and acceptance of renewable energies in the population.

In summary, it can be said that the wind power in North Rhine-Westphalia has lost a lot of momentum in recent months. But the efforts to expand renewable energies continue. It depends on the right wind direction!
