Thousands celebrate CSD in Oldenburg and Hildesheim - a colorful festival of diversity!
Oldenburg, Deutschland - On June 21, 2025, Christopher Street Day (CSD) was celebrated in Oldenburg and Hildesheim with colorful celebrations and impressive number of participants. In bright sunshine and summer temperatures, around 10,000 people gathered in Oldenburg to demonstrate for visibility and equality queer. The event, which was launched by volunteers in 1995, started in the morning with a cultural festival, followed by a lively move through the city center, in which many participants entered flags and transparent for their rights. The CSD ended with the party "Night of Pride", which already has a tradition and created a good atmosphere.
The first CSD event in Hildesheim was also a complete success. The spokeswoman for the CSD, Ray Wieber, was pleased with the participation of around 5,000 people. In Hildesheim, a opening rally, a demonstration and a political street festival were also offered. Here, too, the event remained peaceful, which confirmed the police. The CSD is reminiscent of the historical uprisings of the Queeren Community in the Christopher Street in New York City in 1969, which are considered the turning point for the LGBTQ+movement. The CSD is therefore also referred to as "Pride Parade" or "Gay Pride" and stands for equality, diversity and acceptance.
cultural highlights and history
Already on Friday, June 20, the "Night of Little Arts" took place in the cultural floor. This event, which celebrated the 25th anniversary of the CSD in Oldenburg, was moderated by Annika Blanke and Annie Heger. Appearances by artists such as Simon and Jan and Sascha Korff made this night a special experience. The event attracted numerous visitors and strengthened cultural acceptance in the region.
The CSD has its roots in the 1969 Stonewall Riots when the Queere Community in New York got up against police violence and discrimination. Since then, the CSD has developed into a worldwide-celebrated movement that brings millions of people together to fight for the rights of the LGBTQ+community. During the CSD events in entire cities, not only is celebrating, but also referred to social challenges.
