In Bremen, something is happening in the field of training: On July 17, 2025, Mayor Andreas Bovenschulte and social senator Claudia Schilling announced the opening of the first trainee home in Bremen-Osterholz. This innovative project is scheduled for 66 trainees from September 2025 and thus fulfills an urgent demand for affordable living space for young people in the training phase.
The dormitory, which includes an area of around 1,700 square meters, is divided into 53 individual apartments and two-way living communities. The monthly rent is a maximum of 350 euros per person and includes all additional costs. This concept could help many young people make the step into professional life easier. The Senate press office Bremen emphasizes that a social pedagogical support is also integrated in order to support the trainees in all areas of life.
places and award procedure
How do you get a place in this coveted dorm? The places are mainly awarded using a lottery procedure. Applications can be sent by e-mail to azubi-werk@abig-bremen.de and the notification of the successful applications will be expected by July 31, 2025 at the latest. In addition, companies can acquire references for 13 of the 66 places, which gives the city of Bremen the opportunity to invest additional funds in the project. Here, the companies have to pay 100 euros per place per place, but may take a maximum of two places per company.
The entire costs for the construction of the dormitory amount to around 8.9 million euros, of which the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen bears a significant part of the investment costs with 2.4 million euros. In addition, the income from the corporate places goes to the financing of the residential project and the social pedagogical offers that are provided for the trainees, as the [website Meinbildungweg.info] (https://meinbildungenweg.info/in-bremen-stes-stes-azbi home
