Oslebshausen gets free sports park: Grandma is coming!

Oslebshausen, Bremen, Deutschland - The Oslebshauser MultiSports Area, or grandma for short, will be a new meeting point for young people in Oslebshausen. This free sports facility, which is being built on an urban property between the children's and youth farm Ohlenhof and the oslebshausen correctional facility, includes an area of 14,800 square meters, from which only about half can be used due to the high groundwater level. The project aims to improve the leisure activities for young people and enrich the sports landscape in Bremen. The draft for the facility is to be decided in November by the sports deputation, reports the Weserkurier.

Grandma will offer a variety of sports. This includes a soccer table with artificial turf, a covered boulder area, a basketball field, a sand area for beach volleyball, an obstacle course and a pump track for bicycles and skateboards. In addition, spacious lawns are planned to be used for yoga, Pilates and other relaxation activities.

a step in the right direction

The project was created from a participation process that was already carried out with around 80 young people in 2017. Erhan Yilmaz from Freizi Oslebshausen has been committed to building the system since then. The Gröpelingen Advisory Board has a positive statement about the draft, which is a prerequisite for the decision of the sports deputation.

Grandma should not only be a place to exercise, but also a place of encounter. Numerous seating and lying benches as well as a building with modern building technology, a kiosk and public toilets are planned. In addition, a place keeper will be responsible for the care and safety of the system.

financing and planning

The construction costs are estimated at around 2.2 million euros, with the financing being secured through the integrated development concept of Gröpelingen. The planned work should be advertised in 2024 if the decision is made, the first groundbreaking is scheduled for the summer of 2026, with a completion in early 2027, the Bremer messages report.

In addition to the grandma, a feasibility study that was created for the Office for Social Services in 2023 will also serve as the basis for future measures. The commitment of young people and the participation of the local community are central aspects that accompany and support the project, which also underlines the State Sports Association Bremen.

Overall, the Oslebshauser Multisports Area is an important step to improve the sports infrastructure in Bremen. Sports clubs play a decisive role in social integration and promoting health offers for all age groups. It is therefore all the more important to create new facilities such as the grandma that can serve as a platform for movement, encounter and community.
