Large alarm in Aurich: sawmill burns, fire brigade quickly in action!

Large contingent for the fire brigade in Aurich-Dietrichsfeld: In the late Wednesday afternoon there was a fire in a warehouse of a sawmill on Esenser Postweg. Alarming took place via the Wittmund regional control center, which quickly sent several fire departments, including Plaggenburg, Sandhorst, Tannenhausen and Wallinghausen. In addition, support forces such as the aurich fire brigade and a hose car from the Walle fire brigade were used, and a fire engine from the Bundeswehr fire brigade was also in action.

The German Red Cross was also alerted to support the emergency services on site. Sawnwerk employees were quickly on hand and began to remove burning wood from the warehouse, while the fire brigade tried to contain the fire with a respiratory protection squad and a jet tube. Thanks to the rapid responsiveness, the fire could be brought under control quickly, so that all other forces could cancel their use. After about an hour the warehouse, which was subjected to precise control using a thermal imaging camera, was safe and the smoke was removed. The site was then handed over to the owner. Tixio reports of an orderly and fast process.

comparable incidents in the region

These events take a look at the challenges with which sawmills are confronted. A similar incident occurred on August 17, 2024 in the sawmill in Peilstein when a fire caught the entire production hall within 15 minutes. Despite intensive extinguishing efforts, the entire building, including the vehicles in it, burned out completely. The cause of the fire is currently suspected as a technical defect and fire investigators from the State Criminal Police Office of Upper Austria are investigating the incident. Fortunately, there is no evidence of intentional or negligent arson by third parties, such as [5min] (https://www.5min.at/5202408181524/vollbrand-im-sagewerk-offlenbaren-offenben- Neue-details/).

Such incidents are unfortunately not uncommon as the statistics for the fire causes of fire prove. In 2024, numerous fires were documented in industrial plants, with technical defects one of the main causes. The IFS offers more information about this in its annual statistics.

The incidents in Aurich-Dietrichsfeld and Peilstein show how important fast action by the fire brigade and preventive measures are in fire prevention to minimize damage and to protect affected employees. The cooperation between the fire brigade and affected companies is crucial to master such situations.
