Audi e-tron fell into the mud while maneuvering – driver unharmed!

It was twice shortly before 6 a.m. on August 10, 2025 in Oyten in the Verden district when a regular picture in the Wümme briefly turned the everyday life of the residents upside down. A man, who was a bit clumsy when maneuvering, immediately let his Audi e-tron slide into the water. Witnesses reported that the car fell into the water on a dirt road and ended up on its driver's side. Luckily, the driver was on his feet fairly quickly and was able to get to safety via the passenger door. He swam straight to shore and, fortunately, was uninjured.

The fire brigade was alerted at 6:02 a.m. and numerous emergency services soon went to the scene of the accident. The Fischerhude-Quelkhorn fire department heard the alarm bells ringing, and members of the German Red Cross (DRK), the Ottersberg community fire department, as well as the police and the DLRG were also there. A total of around 40 emergency services were involved in the rescue of the vehicle, which was lying diagonally in the southern arm of Wümme. According to the Verden District Fire Department, the rescue operation lasted a whopping three hours and 28 minutes.

The rescue and the challenge

The challenge for the emergency services came primarily from the location of the vehicle: a tow truck could not reach the scene of the accident. This is where the help of a crawler excavator from the Untere Wümme entertainment association came into play. DLRG members ensured that round slings were attached to the vehicle and were therefore essential players in the rescue. Using combined forces, the excavator pulled the car to the bank and continued to the next access road.

When the fire brigade arrived, the driver had already been looked after by the emergency services. He was a bit lucky because the car could have rolled further onto its roof, which would have made the rescue operation much more difficult. In terms of property damage, the police reported around 35,000 euros, which is not surprising for a modern electric car like the Audi e-tron. A look at the traffic safety statistics shows that such incidents are local, but represent an important part of nationwide traffic education and safety policy.

Accidents like this remind us to be even more careful when driving and maneuvering in the future. Even though the situation ended lightly, one thing is clear: the south arm of Wümme will certainly be remembered - both for the happy driver and for the emergency services, who once again demonstrated their skills and speed.
