Cultural highlights from Bremen: Reading and exhibition in Berlin open up new perspectives
On October 1, 2025, the Bremen state representation in Berlin provided a colorful evening full of culture. Around 100 guests accepted the invitation and were able to attend a reading by talented Bremen authors with a scholarship and the opening of the exhibition “A really good idea”. The event was organized by the Bremen State Representation, the Senator for Culture and the Bremen Literaturkontor. Nancy Böhning, the federal representative of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen, warmly welcomed those present.
The Bremen scholarship, which has been awarded to young literary talents and established authors for over 40 years, was the focus of this evening. The scholarship holders Will Gmehling, Sarah von Lüttichau and Jeff Hemmer presented their projects. Gmehling presented a children's book project, while von Lüttichau dealt with human encounters in her texts. Hemmer presented his work about urban spaces and their stories. Jens Laloire, managing director of the Bremer Literaturkontor, moderated the reading and guided the guests through the event.
Really good ideas
After the readings, the time had finally come: the exhibition “A Really Good Idea” opened. Here visitors can marvel at works by Anke Bär, Jeff Hemmer and Valeska Scholz. This exhibition plays with the idea of staging animals as main characters in stories and encourages reflection on the relationships between humans and animals. Simone Ewald, the Senator for Culture, gave an introductory speech and introduced the guests to the topic. The exhibition can be seen until December 19, 2025 at the Bremen state representation at Hiroshimastraße 24, 10785 Berlin. Admission is free; prior registration is recommended.
This series of events impressively shows how important art and culture are for Bremen. In addition, the exchange between young and old as well as between Bremen fans and comic lovers remains alive. Given the diversity of the works shown here and the committed presentations, it is to be hoped that such initiatives will continue to make waves.
The Bremen scholarships and the associated projects not only contribute to the promotion of young literary talent, but also bring a breath of fresh air into the cultural scene. Maybe this is just the beginning of more inspiring events!
