Successful major control in Bremen: Police seize weapons and drugs!
There was really something going on in the Bremen train station district on Friday, September 12th, 2025! Almost 70 emergency services from the Bremen police, the federal police, the public order office and DB Security carried out a large-scale inspection. The aim was to increase security in the district and to take action against drug and weapons crimes, with the measure having a positive outcome. The amount checked was considerable: 346 people were checked and 42 had to be sent off. Police.news reported that, among other things, six knives, a baton, a knuckle duster, pepper spray and various narcotics were seized.
What exactly was secured? The emergency services found around 10 kg of amphetamine, 820 g of cannabis, around 100 g of heroin as well as cocaine, crack and ecstasy. To top it all off, cash amounting to 845 euros and 25 cell phones were confiscated. But that wasn't all: eight criminal complaints were also filed, including violations of the narcotics and weapons laws.
Confusion and arguments
A very special incident occurred in Nelson Mandela Park, where there was an argument involving iron chains. The police caught three fugitive suspects in the Bürgerpark, which greatly pleased the operations management. The arrest in connection with the measures also shows that serious action is being taken against crime here.
Another critical moment was the seizure of an underage buyer from the drug dealer milieu on Hillmannplatz. Drugs were seized during this check, which led to a subsequent search of the apartment. On the night of Saturday, September 2nd, 2025, the Bremen police had already checked more than 60 people at the main train station elsewhere, with similar results: numerous knives and drug discoveries remain the main issues here. A manipulated e-bike driver was also caught who drove against two red lights and was traveling without a driver's license. NDR reports on expulsions and the subsequent investigations.
Gun ban zones: Safe, but controversial
The refreshment of police checks is no coincidence. How tagesschau.de Reportedly, gun ban zones were introduced in Germany after several knife attacks, particularly after the Solingen terrorist attack in August 2024. The pressure on politicians to take such measures is enormous. In Bremen and other cities, such zones are intended to ensure that the carrying of weapons is restricted and that the police can carry out checks without special reasons.
However, expert opinions on the effectiveness of such measures are divided. While some report a certain success story, for example homicides in Stuttgart have been reduced, critics see these zones as discriminatory. Professor Dirk Baier's comprehensive criticism of the one-sided attributions of violence to young men with a migration background also shows that the issue is complex. Ultimately, it should be noted that a package of measures is required to comprehensively increase security.
The Bremen police have already announced that they will continue the control and presence measures in the station district and will continue to be active in central areas such as Hillmannplatz and Philosophenweg. The developments remain exciting and we can look forward to the next steps of the security authorities.
