Sielwall-Kreuzung, Bremen, Deutschland - When the first warm nights of the year come, many people draw on the streets of Bremen. During this mild summer night, Momo is part of a special team that takes care of the safety of the celebrating. The Sielwall crossing, a popular meeting point in the district, is thoroughly observed by him and his colleague Nilo. They are part of the Awareness team, which has ensured safe celebrations in Bremen since 2019. This project is supported and financed by the Bremen Senator for Economic Affairs Kristina Vogt (left) in order to support people in difficult situations in solidarity, reports the Weser-Kurier.

Currently, Momo and Nilo patrol in Lila Westen, which make them unmistakable. They are equipped with backpacks that contain disinfectant, water and glucose. These materials are not only important for their own comfort, but also for the help that they offer people in need. On their tour, they also “check” regularly in bars and find out about the situation on site. In addition, location-based QR codes enable people in the bars to contact their team directly to ask support.

financing problem and future of the project

Buten and Binnen there is currently a lack of financing. The federal funds that had supported the project until New Year's Eve 2025 have expired, and further financing by the city has so far been pending. Despite the positive response of restaurateurs and celebrations, who appreciate the work of the team very much, the project will be stopped for the time being. The security company L’Ununita Security that the teams used will continue to be in use for other tasks, but will no longer be in the role of the Awareness team.

The responsible economic authority is already working on a solution and hopes for a continuation of the offer. The business department is ready to contribute to financing, provided that a solution can be found that does justice to all sides. After all, the two teams of the Awareness project are active in the district on weekends from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. and have established themselves as valuable support in the party scene.
