Wolfsburg sweeps Bremen 4-2 - dream start to the women's Bundesliga!

On September 26, 2025, the women of SV Werder Bremen suffered a painful defeat against VfL Wolfsburg. In brilliant weather and in front of 2,715 spectators in the women's Bundesliga, coach Fritzy Kromp's team lost 2:4 (0:1) in an exciting match.

Wolfsburg started the game with concentration, while Bremen initially wanted to build pressure on the opponent's goal. But the 30th minute brought the decision of the first half: Ella Peddemors hit a low shot into the left corner and put the “Wolves” in the lead. From this point on, the hosts took control of the game, while Bremen was challenged on defense.

Game progression and turning points

Wolfsburg dominated the first half and Bremen barely found a way out of their own half. Bremen suffered another painful blow in the second half: an own goal by Bremen goalkeeper D’Angelo in the 50th minute increased the deficit to 2-0. However, Werder wasn't ready to give up without a fight - in the 82nd minute Larissa Mühlhaus converted a penalty and reduced the score to 1:2.

But hope was short-lived: Svensja Huth, Wolfsburg's captain, made it 3-1 in the 84th minute, followed by another goal from Alexandra Popp in the 89th minute. Emöke Pápai made it 2-4 in stoppage time, but it was too late to score the equalizer.

Statistics and analysis

Although the Bremen team had a few good attacks - the first chance went through Lina Hausicke on the Wolfsburg goal in the 6th minute - it was ultimately not enough for a win. The penalty in the 80th minute was a bright spot, but the experienced Wolfsburg women proved to be too strong.
The decision to replace Verena Wieder with Sharon Beck at the last minute seemed to have further unsettled the team.

After this matchday, Werder Bremen still faces the challenge of keeping pace in the women's Bundesliga. In the current season, 28 of a total of 182 games have been played so far, with the teams fighting to secure a good position. Currently, Bremen finds itself in the table, while Wolfsburg moves up to second place, just one point behind league leaders FC Bayern Munich.
The Bremen team has to recover quickly and concentrate on the next game in order to make their season even more positive. Footystats marks the Women's Bundesliga as the highest league in German women's football, and the competition will remain exciting.

For Bremen it's now time to roll up your sleeves and work on your own performance!
