Blumenthal becomes green: Mobile trees refresh the cityscape!

Mühlenstraße 61, 28779 Blumenthal, Deutschland - Blumenthal, a district in Bremen, is currently blooming thanks to an innovative project with mobile trees, the so -called hiking trees. These trees stand in changing places and bring fresh green into the neighborhood. Two flower cocks and a tree hazel, which are about three meters high and climate change resistant, currently share the space at the water tower on Mühlenstraße. This initiative was launched by the Bremen Association of Social Ecology and has already temporarily greened numerous quarters in the two years of its existence. [Weser Kurier] (https://www.weser-kurier.de/bremen/stadt-blumenthal/wie-blumenthal-auf-mobile-art-gruener- IT-ZEIT-DE-DOC80XJGLXFQO1L1EMGRV) reports that the project not only loosens up, but also serves as an important sign for climate protection.

The care of these trees is taken over by the neighboring daycare center, which shows how important the integration of the residents is. The project is financed with 5000 euros from the "Living in Neighborhoods" program, requests from the "Green Blumenthal" initiative, which is strong for more green in the district. The exact duration of the list of hiking trees and their future locations are still unclear; After about three years, however, they have to be transplanted to a permanent home - be it on public ground or in private gardens.

The advantages of mobile trees

The hiking trees have several advantages: they cool the surroundings, donate shadows and filter the air - particularly valuable in hot, dry summer months. According to Green City, they also promote encounters and discussions about sustainable urban design. It is no coincidence that similar projects have already been carried out in cities such as Munich, Stuttgart, Cologne and Hanover. In Hanover, for example, mobile trees even serve as a means of restriction.

The residents are thrilled. The trees were already moved three times last year to delight different parts of the city. The first move took place on May 2, 2024 and attracted many people, not least thanks to the musical accompaniment by the Samba band "Go Brazil". This commitment and strong cohesion among residents are an example of the positive role that such projects can play in urban development.

natural solutions for urban challenges

green areas are not only nice to look at; They play a central role in protection against weather extremes and offer relaxation rooms for the city population. Studies by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) show that trees change the microclimate, contribute to rainwater infiltration and increase the well -being of people. Kit reports that an increase in the trees could ensure that extreme heat hours can be reduced by almost 64 percent.

The mobile tree idea will be officially presented on Wednesday, June 11th, at 10 a.m. Interested parties are cordially invited to get an idea of the hiking trees on the square at the Wasser tower, Mühlenstraße 61 and to learn more about the action. With this project, Blumenthal once again shows how creative solutions can contribute to improving the urban climate and quality of life.
