Generation change in the shooting club: Xenia Jochum at the top!

In Bremen-Nord a fresh wind blows, and the shooting club Burg has had a young woman at the top with Xenia Jochum since March 2025. At the age of 31 she is the first and so far the only woman who took over the role of the chairman of one of the 28 member associations in the Bremen Schützenbund. Jochum, herself an active archer, even surprised the north brake vice chief of the rifle association when she was elected chairman and suddenly had to address "wife chair", as the Weser-Kurier reported.

The shooting clubs are currently experiencing high season. While the departure can be felt in many regions of traditional rifle festivals and solemn occasions, the Burger Association is also very busy. The members are equipped with dark green vests or jackets, often combined with black, dark gray or white. Jochum itself chose a red -colored sheaf, to match her passion as an archer.

A new course in the shooting club

Xenia Jochum, who came to Bremen two years ago during the Lockdown and informed itself in the Burger Verein Digital, would like to modernize the association and set new accents. Your plans for the coming weeks are ambitious. On July 12th and August 2, she organizes a holiday program for children and adolescents to inspire younger members for shooting sports. "We want to win more members and strengthen the sense of community," emphasizes Jochum, who has integrated well in the local shooting group.

An important step in your tenure will also be the first business trip to the sponsorship association in Burg an der Wupper near Solingen. Here the new chair will have enough opportunity to promote the exchange with other clubs.

women in the rifle system: a very current topic

The role of women in shooting clubs is discussed in the land on land, and has given pandemic a new dynamic. While many clubs still stick to outdated structures, there is a growing tendency to actively involve women in club life. But not all shooting clubs are as progressive as the burger community. In Germany, around 16% of the clubs organized in the Bund of Historical German Rifle Brotherhood (BHDS) are still reserved exclusively, as is explained on

social equality is continuously developing, also with regard to the member structures in shooting clubs. Discussions about equality, the opening of the club structures and the active role of women are long overdue - a topic that is also taken up by cultural scientists: inside and which is to be discussed in various social contexts. Finally, the question arises whether the shooting system will change in the coming years and the dividing of the participation for all citizens: inside, as on wdr is indicated.

Jochum is aware of these challenges and takes their responsibility seriously. You have to "have a good hand" in your position to move something in club life and bring the shooting club to the next stage. How the path of the Burger Schützenverein will develop under her direction remains exciting.
