Cimo Röcker shines: Werder U23 fights to a 2-2 draw against Norderstedt

On September 17, 2025, the “Platz 11” stadium was a place of emotions when the U23 of SV Werder Bremen fought for a point after a turbulent game against Eintracht Norderstedt. After a tense first half, in which Bremen were down 2-0, the talented team showed fighting spirit in the second half and significantly improved their performance. In this game, captain Cimo Röcker secured a draw with two goals.

The game started anything but promising. In the third minute, Jannes Warnken opened the scoring for Norderstedt with a bad pass when Lucas Camacho scored from 15 meters. The hosts struggled to set an offensive tone and only had one shot on goal in the first half, which went to Princewill Mbock. Norderstedt made better use of its chances: Moritz Frahm made it 2-0 after a corner in the 35th minute, which was a bitter setback for Bremen. Coach Christian Brand, who had called for an improvement in performance before this game after a painful 6-0 defeat against Meppen, was not exactly faced with the best results in the first half.

Strong second half and comeback

After the break a different wind was felt. Werder moved closer to the Norderstedter Gate and did not allow themselves to be discouraged. Cimo Röcker, the captain, was the man of the game: in the 70th minute he brought Werder back into the game with a precise shot to make it 1-2. Six minutes later, in the 76th minute, he managed to equalize after a successful combination with his teammates Safa Yildirim and Christian Stark. The U23s managed to turn the game around and secure at least one point.

Despite the hard work, victory was within reach. Shortly before the final whistle, Christian Stark had the opportunity to score the winning goal, but was denied by Norderstedt goalkeeper Lars Huxsohl. The Bremen team could breathe a sigh of relief as they were able to move forward in the table with one point. Werder is currently in 10th place in the Regionalliga Nord with 11 points and has their next game against SV Drochtersen/Assel ahead of them.

On course for advancement

The U23 of Werder Bremen, founded in 1899 and known for their green and white club colors, has ambitious promotion plans in the current 2023/2024 season after they recently had to leave the Bremen League. It remains to be seen how the team will develop under the leadership of head coach Christian Brand after having to worry about staying in the regional league last season. The promotion round to the Regionalliga Nord promises interesting duels - the first opponent will be Altona 93 on May 26, 2024.

For all fans of Bremen's talents, we can only hope that the team can continue its positive development and perhaps soon play a bigger role in the league again. In the spirit of the club, the goal is clear: immediate promotion and a brilliant comeback in the Regionalliga Nord.
