Literature Festival in Bremen-Nord: Poems and Mendelssohn's sound magic!
Bremen-Nord, Deutschland - On June 2, 2025, the “Host Single” literary festival took place in the Blumenthal documentary, in which poems and music were presented in harmonious harmony. The inviting frame offered the framework for the authors Jochen Windheuser and Bernd Gruschwitz, who presented their latest works to an enthusiastic audience. Windheuser had particularly devoted himself to the poetic examination of the “songs without words” by composer Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy. His poems written in the style of early romanticism address, among other things, the lost child happiness and the deeply felt request for a new life.
In a masterful performance, Windheuser not only read his poems, but also accompanied them with four piano pieces by Mendelssohn-Bartholdy. These pianistic works, were created between 1829 and 1845, are part of a popular series known under the title "Songs Without Words". Mendelssohn's compositions enjoyed great popularity in the 19th century because they are accessible to various piano players and offer the opportunity to live out their own musicality. Windheuser emphasized the coordination of language, clock and rhythm between his poems and music, which gave the evening a special note.
humorous stories and literary discoveries
Bernd Gruschwitz also brought a breath of fresh air into the program with his humorous anecdotes. An amusing story about his missing trousers in India caused joy in the audience. He also presented two forgotten French feminists: Olympe de Gouges and Germaine Tillion. Like Windheuser, Gruschwitz is also literarily active in the retirement and recently published the book "111 Bremer Haikus". He also works on a novel that hopefully will soon see the light of day.
Both authors are part of a crime talent in Bremen-Nord, where they live out their passion for exciting stories. Windheuser, who has a special interest in crime novels, let know that he often processes places and stories from Bremen-Nord in his texts. The lively exchange of this literary community means that they inspire and cheer each other.
an invitation to the next reading
A highlight of the festival was not only the successful performance, but also the view of the next reading as part of "Host Language", which will take place on June 19 at 6 p.m. in Signalstation 1 at the Vegesacker Weserpromenade. As at yesterday's event, admission is free. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience the world of words and sounds up close and to enjoy the creativity of local authors.
whether the musical elegance of the "songs without words" or the lively stories of Gruschwitz, the events in Bremen-Nord are a wonderful meeting point for literature and music lovers of all ages.
