Adventure brewery in Bremerhaven: Koggenbräu is becoming the new hotspot!

There is exciting news from the world of beer in Bremerhaven! Lüder Kastens is planning an “experience brewery” in the former Koggenbräu building, which will be a real highlight for beer lovers and tourists. This building, which once served as a granary, was acquired in June 2023 and is now saved from demolition by intense public pressure, as t-online.de reports.

The investment in the project amounts to around nine million euros and the implementation is ambitious. Architect Tom Krenz has already drawn up plans for an extension that will harmoniously complement the existing building, which is under monument protection. An “indented intermediate structure” is intended to ensure the visibility of the brewing kettles.

Versatile use of the new complex

The newly designed Koggenbräu building not only includes the adventure brewery on the ground floor, but also 35 to 40 holiday apartments from the start-up “Bheaven”. This company has already established 16 holiday apartments at various locations in Bremerhaven and would like to provide new impetus with its latest project. The holiday apartments should be available from 2027. kreiszeitung.de reports.

Things will be particularly exciting during “Sail” 2025, when the Koggenbräu building will be opened to visitors at short notice as a pop-up bar serving beer. This allows guests to get a first impression of the future appearance of the building.

Union Brewery on expansion course

But the Union brewery in Walle also has upcoming anniversaries to celebrate – the company will be ten years old in December 2025. At the same time, the brewery is also planning to expand to Hemelingen into the former premises of the Wilkens silverware factory. The corresponding property was acquired for 4.6 million euros and the building permit for this new location is in progress. The preparatory work is already underway, such as the installation of district heating and electrical systems.

With all of these developments in Bremerhaven and the surrounding area, the region will certainly become even more attractive. The tourist opportunities and the variety of offerings make it clear: there is a lot in store for beer lovers and pleasure lovers!
